Too much homeless camping out in pavilions day and night were prohibited. Homeless people don’t allow you to use the pavilions even with a permit. Lock your belongings up. Creeps come out of the bushes all night looking for what they can steal from your camp.

Like most places in Big Island signage is pathetic. Not sure if that’s the way the locals want it. But this stop is well worth it. We saw beautiful turtles, black sand beach and breathtaking scenery.

Whittington Beach Park is a beautiful place for a day trip or overnight camping. Campsites are 20 feet away from the water. There are picnic tables & BBQs. Nice restrooms with outside showers. Very peaceful. I would definitely recommend this place.

This is a nice beach also, but then again, we haven't found a beach on the Island that wasn't breathtaking. There are restrooms here and covered picnic tables.

Not as dramatic as Black Sands down the road, but a lot less busy. Can’t say about the swimming, but it makes a nice rest stop or a place for a picnic (perhaps with some Malasadas from Punalu’u Bake Shop.) The coastline view is dramatic, and the park is peaceful and relaxing.

Nice beach park, quiet place to relax or have a picnic before heading to Volcano National park. Used water shoes to climb the reef a bit- not a swimming area due to current and rocks.

My husband and I were touring the Big Island on a self-supported bicycle trip. We had stayed (camped)in several other County Beach Parks. On our 6th night, we arrived at Whittington Beach. We sought out, but did not find anyone working there. Some local people showed us the camping area and said that people frequently camp there, so we set up our tent, locked our bikes to the picnic table and enjoyed snorkeling and walking around the park. After dark, most people left the park and we were the only people camping in a tent ( others were sleeping in vehicles). We went to sleep in our tent and when we woke up in the early morning hours, we discovered that our bikes, locked 15 feet from our tent had been stolen, along with all other gear not in our tent. We called the police, and the first thing the dispatcher said was, "That isn't a safe place to camp!" We wish that we had known that ahead of time! Our bikes were never recovered and we completed our trip in a rental car.

Great beach with calm swimming pools - well kept grounds and an old bridge. Lots of seating under trees over looking the water. Most people just fly right by headed to Punalu’u- but it is definitely worth a stop!

A wonderful beautiful beach park that is great for exploring, not great for swimming as it is a very wild savage beach here. Waves crashing over lava rocks, absolutely stunning 🌊🌊

My family and I just happened across Whittington Beach Park. With the exception of a small sign pointing towards a long path to the end of a road where the park is at, the park is relatively hidden. Because of this, the park was not crowded and it offered some spectacular views of the water. I also recommend bringing and wearing water shoes because the water edge is very rocky. I would definitely track this place down if you are looking for a more isolated beach day on the Big Island.
