Great snorkeling anytime. Even in wintertime ...as always in Hawaii check tide report ahead of time and check currents before entering water. Lots of fish here to see and turtles. Also lots of people entering and exiting water so take your time getting in and out.

Love this snorkeling beach! Wear water shoes or scuba shoes for much easier access over the lava rocks as you enter the water. Learned yesterday that you want to keep your distance from nesting hamu hamu fish...apparently they bite. Two people next to us had nasty looking bites. Respect the parenting fish and keep your distance. We've been snorkeling here... More

My wife and I came here to do some snorkelling. This is a state park so it is free. Parking can be limited at times but we got there at around 11am and there were quite a few parking spots. The sand on the beach is not your powder sand but there are a lot of marine life to look... More

This beach definitely has a great location in Kona. There is a covered pavilion with lots of picnic tables. Parking seems adequate. We rented snorkel gear for the week from a truck parked on the grounds. Definitely wouldn't suggest that- ill fitting masks and there are better prices elsewhere. There were food trucks parked there also for snack options. The... More

The snorkeling is very good and you can rent equipment at the beach. We saw a great variety of fish and some turtles. The beach however is very small with coarse sand and a very rocky entry to the water. Come to snorkel but go elsewhere for a beautiful beach.

Saw my first sea turtle right when I got into the water. The water is very clear but Rocky so water shoes are a must. I had a great time snorkeling for an hour or so. I also recommend to bring own snorkel gear even tho you can rent it there

Protected bay teeming with many species of fish, urchins, corals, and green sea turtles. Not a boring moment. Absolutely loaded with fish everywhere you look.

This is our first snorkeling experience in the Big Island. The beach is tiny and it was very crowded, but we were drawn to stay here because most people were basking on the sand or snorkeling. We inched ourselves to the rocky shore. Within inches of setting foot in the water we saw beautiful fish all over. We saw big... More

The water was calm given the waves beyond the breakwater rocks. Tons of beginners but once you get through the entrance gauntlet, it is very nice.

I am a beginner swimmer and going to some part of the beaches in Big Island on my own for snorkeling can be very risky. I'm glad I found this place through a local. I saw many turtles without trying very hard. Sometimes, they can be on a shallow end, swim close to the shore. We are not supposed to... More
