Great beach, calm water, very scenic. We were told this is the driest spot on the Big Island and it was fantastic to be able to walk into the ocean on the nice sandy beach.

We stopped at this park on the way to Hawi. What a beautiful find! The beach is so big and clean. There are washrooms and showers although they are very basic. There was hardly anyone there when we visited. Looks like a nice place to...More

Samuel Spencer Beach Park is a well-developed park located south of Kawaihae. There is a sandy beach, paved walkways and plenty of paved parking. We stopped on a Sunday afternoon and easily found a parking spot. There were some tents and campers set up on...More

We had been discussing the fact that you did not see RV's of any sort on the Big Island, and then pulled into Spencer Beach to find a camping area and pickup campers and tents set up amid the campsites. That is only one part,...More

Known also as a snorkeling spot, it's near the Pu'okohala Heiau site. The beach is good, a little sheltered so the surf isn't too strong. There are good facilities, camping, hiking too.

This is just a beautiful place to cool off and enjoy life. Tables every where. They just cleaned and reconditioned last week and it was closed. Clean, accessible and quiet. RRR

I’ve camped at Spencer Beach in the past but this year it was more of a homeless camp than a beach park. It appeared that the security staff allows their friends and relatives to camp free, bring dogs, make noise and generally break the rules...More

Don't know for sure. If the rocks are light in weight and shiny-black, they're lava. Heavy black rocks may not be or may be lava based.
