Description:

Waipio On Horseback offers special guided excursions on horseback in...

Waipio On Horseback offers special guided excursions on horseback in secluded Waipi'o Valley. Our small groups savor the charm of this 2 1/2 hour adventure in old Hawaii.

This trek takes a leisurely pace. Our guides narrate throughout the ride, explaining the history, legends and facts of life in the valley. The path meanders through lush jungle trails along the hillside; through streams and rivers; and on to ancient Hawaiian villages. Riders see dramatic 1,200-foot waterfalls, taro patches, lotus ponds, wild horses, exotic flowers, plants, native trees and birds. See one of Hawaii's oldest forms of farming that produces taro, a Hawaiian staple that helps feed our local community.

We meet at the WOH Barn located 7-1/2 miles toward Waipio from Honokaa. Riders travel via four-wheel drive vehicle into Waipi'o Valley-ancient Hawaii's "Valley of the Kings." We depart from the WOH Barn at 9:30 am and 1:30 pm daily. The trail ride begins on the valley floor. Then a four-wheel drive vehicle takes the riders out of the valley and drops them off back at the WOH Barn.

A minimum of two and a maximum of fourteen riders are allowed on each excursion. Refunds are given on cancellations received in our office 24 hours or more in advance of the reserved ride time.

Because of our remote location, reservations are required at least 24 hours in advance. Weather plays a vital role in this tour's operation and can change rapidly. In case of hard rain or flood conditions, this tour is subject to cancellation. We will give as much advance warning as soon as possible in these situations.

This is a unique and active tour. We recommend guests be agile and in good health. We suggest pants and covered shoes. Children under twelve years of age will be accepted if they are with a responsible adult or are experienced riders.

To see the Waipi'o Valley was on our top of the list when visiting the Big Island, however, it's not that accessible. Since we also wanted to do some horseback riding going by Waipi'o on Horseback was the ultimate choice. The staff was top motivated and service minded, the horses was well trained and in great condition, so this turned... More

I was mounted on a horse, Tinako, He was not a happy horse. Got into an altercation with another horse, Camel. I got kicked on my thigh by Camel, even before starting out on the trail. I was told the horses must've had something going at the stables and I was assured that once we got going, it would be... More

We pulled up to the entrance of Waipi'o on Horseback, driving by some beautiful and interesting vegetation. We were greeted by Tracy and Cecil, who offered us some local fruits (grown right on the farm). They were delicious! We then piled into the van for the trip down to the stable...have your camera ready for the ride. We were matched... More

This horseback tour is great. It takes you to the places you can't see from the lookout. Extremely beautiful scenes. The tour takes about 2.5 hours with more than 2 hours horse riding. Be sure to wear a hat or jacket, it raining very often down there.

Wow! How stunning! If you're looking to see the beauty of the Big Island, you have to see the Waipi'o Valley! Our guides, Allie and Micah were so knowledgeable about all plant, wildlife, and Hawaiian culture and history of the valley. Absolutely beautiful and one of the best things we did while we were here. :)

This tour is the best way to see Waipio valley. We had Cecil and Tracy as our tour guides. They are amazing, told us about the valley, people who live in the valley, culture and etc. While riding a horse you could see waterfalls, wild horses, taro fields, and just the beutiful view of Waipio valley. That was a big... More

We first went to Waipio in 2014 and really enjoyed going through the valley on horseback. When family visited us here in Hawaii we made this trip part of our agenda again. You meet at the "office" a few miles outside of the valley and then travel in a four-wheel-drive van to the horse corral located on the floor of... More
