Parking is limited along the street unless you pay for the Botanical Garden tour but a must stop along the 4 mile scenic drive. Paved pathway, a little steep but not too bad, and go straight thru the garden paths to the bottom for the best views.

The drive along Hwy 19 through the north side of the Big Island is great. Highly recommend if you're travelling across the island.

This drive is truly worth the detour if you are in the area. Do take time to visit the Botanical Gardens located on this drive. Beautiful!

Don't rush by this little four-mile side trip along Honomea bay. There are plenty of places to pull over and soak in the salt spray and view of the beautiful Pacific. There are even a couple of shave-ice/ice cream/smoothie stands near the bottom.

Well worth the drive, curvy and slow but fantastic streams, bridges and overlooks. Cool and breezy anytime of the year.

The scenery is just breath taking. The road is a little narrow for 2 way traffic but it is worth the drive.

I'm not sure how anyone could give this gem of a drive anything less than 5 stars. It is stunning! It is a short, 4 mile diversion off the main road. Don't expect to go faster than about 20 miles an hour. Leads to the botanical gardens. The vegetation and views are unreal. Slow down and take the time to... More

If the Big Island is your only stop and you are staying in Hilo, this may be your best short trek to see what the rainforest area really feels like. There are a few coastal overlooks and one stunning pond with a small waterfall. A few local eateries that look interesting too. Worth a short diversion off the main road.... More

This is not a great drive but it is a good setup if one is going to the botanical garden. Helps slow one down to appreciate what you will see at the destination. Probably not a ideal detour if not visiting the Garden.

I nice change from the main drag around Hilo. Traveled here in a tremendous rain storm. Many parts of trees were down on the road, but the road was passable. Beautiful scenery, and a real reason to go slow
