Cold water. No real beach. Hawaii is not Florida when it comes to the beach. Could not get in water in August...too cold. No turtles. Not sure why it is called a beach. No sand...really..rocks.

we really enjoyed the beauty and diversity of this beach.........interesting ponds and then the coastline is beautiful...lots of sea life all around this park and great picturesque views....but if you expect a sandy beach ...this is NOT your place

While perhaps a good beach on the Hilo side of the island, there are much prettier beaches within an hour of Richardson.

Stayed across the street from this park. Grandkids kayaked, fished, and swam at this beautiful park.

This is a great spot. There is the black sand beach, great snorkelling and turtles in the rock pools on the far side. There are also picnic type tables and chairs. Very difficult to park at the weekend as it is popular with local residents....More

Richardson Beach Park offers fantastic snorkeling, a chance to swim with sea turtles, and a black sand beach. What else could you ask for packed into such a small site. Parking is a challenge so arrive early.

Great gray sand beach. Good for snorkeling. Crystal clear water. Be prepared for the sharp gray lava rock with beach shoes or sandals.

I saw the Black sand before so nothing new. But the Turtles seeing more than one at a time was awesome. Their were two that were right up by the stairs to the beach. got some good photos of them.

I agree with the first two answers above. You don't need to worry about a tour bus, the local bus does run there, but not on Sundays. Just look up the bus schedule online. Or when you get to Hilo you can call the bus company... More
