I always take my visitors here, its an easy and cool site, but be sure to take everything out of your car. There are local guys who stake out the parking area across the street and break into cars when people are inside the caves. We have seen guys loitering twice, just watching visitors. Do everyone else a favor and... More

I visited this cave while visiting Hilo. It is conveniently located near the Rainbow Falls minutes from Hilo. It is also free and not too many tourists and is great for cave beginners like me. Make sure you wear shoes with good traction so you won't slip and fall. A flashlight is required if you want to go in deeper... More

Out tour director was very informative and we had great weather, would do it again, its not a big lava tube but then it was my first one.

Worth a stop if you're in the area, but the lava tubes at the Volcano National Park is much better. Don't make a special trip just for this.

The caves are neat to see, there is no wheelchair accesibility. There is a huge staircase to walk down to two different caves, its neat to go inside. You need very bright lights (like huge flashlights or spotlights) if you want to venture in father. We didn't and it was kind of creepy getting futher into the cave. There are... More

We didn't get to venture too far into this lava tube as we didn't have adequate lighting to make our way, but hopefully next time we visit we'll be ready. This is an easily accessible and free park to check out. The parking is across the street from the lava tube entrance and you have to go down a steep... More

The road crosses the lava tube so you can go left or right. Wear shoes or boots with good traction, jeans, long sleeves, hat and gloves. You do not want to scratch yourself in lava rock. Bring a lantern, if possible the kind you put in your head because the tube is not lit. I have used my phone to... More

Free attraction where you can spend 10 minutes stretching your legs after crossing the Island from the Kona airport to Hilo on the way to the volcano. Its not worth a special trip to see it though.

This was a really cool experience. Our B&B host advised us to go here and to take the cave on the left at the bottom of the stairs for the best experience. He also provided us with two flashlights and this was essential. A phone light wouldn't have allowed us to see the tube properly. Go left at the bottom... More

Parking across the street. Follow the bright yellow railings. Bring STRONG flashlights - this is a do it yourself site with no guides or anything. A bit slippery underfoot, but spectacular and unusual lava flows make it worth the scramble. Steep staircase and climb down to cave entrances.
