This is a lovely loop hike on a paved path with many steps. The vegetation is amazing, so lush, tangled and a variety of flowers. The parking situation on arrival is a bit strange, as the lot is tiny, so we road parked 10 feet outside the gate and walked in. $5 for a car inside the gate or $1... More

This is a very easy to get to yet beautiful waterfall to enjoy along the Hamakua coast of the Big Island. They do charge $5 for parking here which goes to the upkeep of a paved trail that makes it soooo easy to view the falls. Two ways to enjoy it. Take a right at a fork in the trail.... More

We went for a drive and found Akaka Falls. It was beautiful. An easy walk to view falls. Local shopping near Akaka Falls was also worth stopping for.

Must see falls. Second largest fall in the states after Niagara. Good place for a trip, having restrooms and parking zone. If you want to have picnic here there is a place to do. Enjoy it.

So close to town this is a must see attraction when visiting the big island. A great drive and beautiful walk through a tropical rainforest.

Seniors that have trouble walking or with steps have to settle for extremely long distance view which doesn,t seem worth it. This has a charge $5.00 per car or $1.00 per person without their parking. Those that can handle the walk will not get as close as you would expect. For young teens and other adults it takes about 30... More

This is an easy walk through a beautiful area. If you like waterfalls dropping into lush foliage, you won't be disappointed.

short drive from Hilo (caution to anyone driving, there is not a lot of signage on the roads for any attraction; take it slow or you miss turns). on site parking is limited, so you may have to park on the road and walk into the park. don't let stop you. take the walk, climb the stairs, follow the path,... This is a good place to visit, but quite a drive for something that isn't that amazing. Lots of people, and the morning is the time to go. In the afternoon, the falls were shaded. Kahuna Falls, next to Akaka, was hard to see and not worth the extra walk.

You can get a pretty good view of Akamai Falls from the parking lot, but if you have an extra half hour or so, take the self guided circle tour. You walk at different heights and see great plant life and another set of falls. It is not handicapped accessible on the concrete paths because there are several stairways. I... More
