Amazing waterfalls and hiking trails and flowers along the path - a must-see We visited Hawaii for our summer vacation in 2018 - the Big Island, Oahu and Kauai. On our last full day on the Big Island we had a full day: - Overnight...More

Gorgeous water fall, don't miss it. Site says easy hike. No need for hiking boots. It's a concrete path and stairs all the way. Flip flops are no problem.

The falls are visible from a parking lot but a closer view is very nice for a few dollars and a walk down a wooden path to the base. Great place to take a picnic lunch as multiple physical levels can enjoy this area....flat, wood...More

Park outside the gate and pay $1 per person or inside and $5 per car. Take the time to notice the variety of jungle plants on the hike. The falls are spectacular.

When you are in area of Hilo this is a must. The very high waterfall runs off an edge of rock and disolves very smoothly into the air. In the events of Hurrican and huge rain fall it can become a monster. It is also...More

This park is easy to get to, and the hike to the waterfall is more of a stroll really. All paved walkways with a few steps here and there. Get there early to beat the crowds.

This delightful waterfall is so easy to visit, with a small parking lot and a good paved trail to the view point. Because the lot was full, we parked on the road just outside the gates (only 20 feet further to walk) and so the...More

We went to Akaka Falls in Hilo the end of September. Awesome! It is a trek through a heavily forested rain forest, but well worth it. Flowers are everywhere. The day we went was very hot and humid, be sure to bring water, hat and...More

We drove around the coast and it was raining. It was well worth the 5 dollars to park. Due to the heavy rains the falls were at their best. A nice easy walk around and a great place to take photos.

The quick loop brings you deep inside a lush paradise. I actually found a chameleon !! (Not native, like most of the flora/fauna on this island). Surely a highlight- we saw many other small lizards and interesting flowers. The waterfall is picturesque, but learning about...More

The easiest way to get around is to rent a car. The airport in Hilo has all the major car rental agencies. Akaka falls isn't too far from Hilo, maybe 10 miles or so. It really shouldn't take you more than 45 minutes to an... More
