Park outside carpark gates, it's literally 1 min walk from carpark (if that)and then you only pay $1 pedistrian entrance instead of $5 car entrance. The loop track is currently closed so only 5 min easy walk to falls. Few steps at start for those...More

I highly recommend not missing out on this gorgeous visit! We came with our tour guide Lee from Wild Orchid Tours and we were stunned - super lovely short trail to the right which opened up to amazingly tall trees and vegetation - even just...More

The worst thing is you have to pay $5.00 to park. It's a short hike (5 minutes) to the falls through a rain forest. The access is paved; there are some stairs. You pass a small falls on the way. Half of the hiking loop...More

Beautiful waterfall with very easy access. If you go by car and want to park inside, you have to pay USD 5,00 for that.

My husband and I stopped off to view Akaka Falls on our trip back from Hilo and after we had visited Rainbow Falls. While Akaka Falls was pretty, I was disappointed in the fact that one of the trails was closed and the view of...More

Only downside for visiting this place is that it cost $5 per car to see the falls, should be free. Great view though and worth the visit as it's a short drive from the main road from Hilo. Mahalo!

We ventured to Akaka Falls for a day out, and were a little underwhelmed. Part of the walk wasn't opened, which was disappointing. The easy main walk to the falls certainly has some beautiful plants on the way, and provides for plenty of photo opportunities....More

The Akaka photographs do not do the falls justice. This attraction is a must see. Absolutely stunning and beautiful! The falls is accessed by a short walk. The walk is a beautiful stroll through lush foliage.

We stopped here in the morning, right when the park opened and enjoyed the short walk down to see the falls. Fun place to stop for pictures and a good tie-in with the Hawaii Botanical Gardens. Small parking lot with bathrooms and a small entrance...More

You can go the way in normal clothes. Be careful when the floor is wet; then it can be slippery.

Is there any website or twitter feed or something that tells you if the waterfalls are flowing or not? I saw that it is not always active. Hoping to plan ahead and avoid a few hours in the car if the waterfalls aren't flowing.
