Bumpy ride. The boat was too big, and with so many on board, the view was very limited. Do not recommend.

Your other options are 22-30ft fishing boats now of which offer restrooms? The boat is as advertised a 40ft 49 passenger aluminum catamarran More

My wife and I recently took the sunrise Lava Tour. The captain and the crew are cool people and have a good attitude, always putting safety first. The tour is expensive but when you get so close to the lava you kind of forget everything; it was unreal! The boat: It's a big, comfortable boat. Make sure your board first... More

My husband and I thought this tour was worth every penny! We did the sunrise tour, which was a good idea because the water was a bit choppy so it was good that we didn't have anything in our stomachs. It took the boat about 30 minutes to get to the lava sight, and we were so amazed by how... More

After a casual "safety briefing" by the captain, we motored for 1/2 an hour to the site, remained there for about 10-15 minutes, and then returned to the boat launch at a park. During the trip there was almost no explanation of what we were seeing, how this phenomenon takes place, or it's effect on Hawaii over the years. It... More

This is the place if you want to get closest to the lava action! The Lava One boat is specially configured for seeing the lava close up, with very powerful engines that can handle the ocean waves and quickly maneuver around the shore features. I recommend the front row seat for the full experience.

Incredible!! This was tremendous experience. I would recommend everyone going to Hilo should do. It is pricey but it is a humbling experience, in terms of being up-close and center with a force of nature. Our captain did a marvelous job maneuvering the vessel the entire trip, on those treacherous waters and especially near the place where the lava flows... More

Had an amazing time. Capt. Shane and his crew where awesome. Pretty comfortable boat ride with amazing views of the coastline on your way to the main attraction. He gets you up close so you can truly see and feel the amazing power and beauty of flowing lava as it hits the the sea. Definitely have to make a visit... More

This might have been the most incredible tour my husband and I have been on! We woke up early for the sunrise boat tour on New Year's Eve and it was well worth the 245am alarm! We arrived to the boat dock (the directions were very easy to follow despite it being pitch black out!) We received a standard safety... More

Wow! This tour is the one to go on. Shane does an excellent job informing you of what to expect on the trip and how to be safe. He then delivers the goods with an up close lava warming experience that you will not forget. This is the trip others look at from a distance and wish they had picked... More

The operators were helpful with seating me after encouraging disclosure of tendency for motion sickness. I'd taken plenty of Dramamine ahead of time and had no trouble. The steam covered most of the lava flow but we were able to see it when the steam cleared for seconds at a time. Tours in the dark are likely more spectacular, but... More
