I know the price is somewhat off-putting and there may be a tendency to pass this opportunity up. Do not do it. What you will see from a helicopter tour or the hike along the coast to watch the lava from the cliffs is nothing in comparison to what you will experience from the boat. We were probably 50 yards... The Lava Ocean Tours was a very good way to see the lava. The boat and crew were entertaining and competent. We were out on a fairly calm day but there still were some bumps that were jarring but nothing crazy. The website is very clear about the potential to get wet and experience a rough ride and still many... More

We had heard the waters were calmer for the sunrise trip vs the sunset trip. We chose the sunrise trip. Yes, it is a very early start. Yes, it is completely dark when you set out on the ocean. We were rewarded with a beautiful sunrise on the way. Wow, wow, wow!!! We were close enough to the lave that... More

My son, husband and I took this tour December 30th, 2016. When you get your first glimpse of the steam plume, you know you are in for something special. You will feel the heat and steam and then you see the lava. Totally amazing. You see the ocean go from it's beautiful turquoise to a dark denim almost black as... More

yep, expensive. yep, 4 am sunrise worth it. Yep, totally worth all of it. Just go if its operating. Sit in front, wear water proof jacket, take your dramamine if seasick prone and catch a view you will never see again. PS bring cash to tip your captain, nothing around in terms of stores banks coffee etc, so come prepared.

We booked online with a credit card (required) and never received a confirmation. After calling the office for more than an hour the next day (the day of the tour), finally reached a person. They had the reservation, said they would send an email with info/directions as we were driving to that side of the island for the tour, but... More

There were no rude text only honest ones. Guest claimed they didn't receive our emails and couldn't find directions on our website. To verify I visited website and sen the directions clearly posts online as well as check customer reservation and seen where the office emailed hime 3 times. Only customer missing on voyage of 49 people. More

Read the confirmation email. It has info on where to park, how to get there, where to check in. It's pretty accurate. So read it. The ride is incredibly bumpy. I'm not exaggerating. If you are easily nauseated, really think about this. I had anti-nausea meds in my system and still experienced dry heaving. Prescription grade. I've been on many... More

The boat is well equipped and no we do not require passengers to wear life jackets cause they have never been needed during a trip however we have 54 available for any guest who requests them. As stated in our advertising our vessel is a 49 passenger boat that was specifically designed for lava touring and rides much better then... More

I would give this trip 10 stars if I could! We live on Oahu and have to say this is the BEST way to see Lava! Normally you just plumes of smoke from the hiking trails, but this tour actually lets you see lava flowing into the ocean. Obviously evening and morning trips are the best, but we booked a... More

We took the sunset trip and had a wonderful time. Being this close to the Lava flowing into the Ocean was the chance of a lifetime and highlight of our trip. We got great photos although I am sure they are even more dramatic in the early morning or after sunset. We highly recommend this trip, it is fast and... More

This is a excellent way to view a wonder of nature up close, very close. We felt the heat of the lava flowing into the ocean. We had the best view available and every passenger had the same view. Thank you to Shane and his crew for an excitement filled lava cruise.
