Fabulous little zoo with plenty to enjoy. The botanical gardens plus the adorable birds were a pleasure. We truly enjoyed our afternoon. Everyone was so friendly and the grounds are beautiful. The thundering overhead did not distract us from enjoying the peacocks and all the animals. Pleasant and free. It is perfect for people with disabilities or young children. A great place. Do not hesitate!!

I wish that I could share some pictures with everyone. This is a cute little zoo and botanical garden area. We spent a couple of hours here (even a couple of picnic tables in the zoo area) and really enjoyed the variety of animal life.

I’m disabled. The improvements the zoo has made for disabled visitors are wonderful. They have rental scooters available and only request 48 hour advance notice if you will need one. Thank you so much for making the zoo a place that is welcoming to people who are differently abled. Romeo (one of the cockatoos) never ceases to delight me. Kyle was the escort for me and my service dog. He made sure we got to say hi to Romeo who was out of his cage for enrichment activities. Kyle was a great escort. He knew so much about the animals and never made me feel rushed. This zoo is small and intimate. You get close to many of the animals. I had the best time and I think you will too. Please be sure to donate if you are able to. The money goes to care for these amazing animals. This is a wonderful way to spend a few hours of the day. The staff really care about the welfare of the animals and your experience.

Best zoo in the Hawaiian islands! It’s free (unlike the one in Oahu), bigger and more animals, and did I mention free? More of a local’s family adventure, we loved it! Very peaceful and chill vibe! Kid and family friendly!

Apart from the tiger's exhibit, everything looks average. nothing you haven't seen from your local zoo.

Came to the zoo with my family about an hour before closing time and was surprised that the zoo is free but you're encouraged to donate whatever you can to keep it going. We were greeted by peacocks walking freely which was a cool surprise. There were huge playgrounds that the kids loved and the highlight to us was the tiger exhibit. Both the tigers (one is a white tiger) came up to the fence and hung out with us. It's a very intimate zoo. My nephew (who will probably become a zoologist someday) loved getting up close to the numerous iguanas and cockatoos and other small creatures. Definitely recommend hitting this place if you have a family with small kids. Just wished we had more time to visit.

This is a quick drive out of town and it’s a fabulous zoo. There were tigers, monkeys, crocodiles and much more. Check out my pix

We spent a morning there on a day with rain in the forecast after lunch. The flowers/plants were as interesting to us as the animals. Free, simple donations requested. Probably wouldn't go there if time was a factor but we had a week in just Hilo area so it was worth a few hours of time.

We have a 18 month old and this was the perfect place to just let him run. It is free. They have a gift shop at the entrance and it is the only place to get water, drinks, etc. You can bring in your own food and have a picnic lunch if wanted. They have a playground that my son loved to play on. If you are used to upscale top notch zoo's this is not the place for you. It was a nice free activity to let our toddler run, see some animals and walk around.
