Sweet little island off the coast of Hilo
This is such a nice little island to walk around. You take a little bridge near the park. When we were there it was full of local families playing, swimming and enjoying themselves. It is a small island which you could walk around in 10 minutes but it was nice to stroll around and enjoy the views

Cool little island to visit on your way to someplace else.
This is the type of place that you like when you stumble across it by accident. It’s a quick stop and only takes about 20 minutes to explore. It’s a small island connected to the Hilo shore park system by a bridge. What I liked was the ruins of a few buildings and marine facilities along portions of the shoreline.

    Small island stroll
I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews or what those people were expecting. Coconut Island is a very small island, nice for a quick walk around if you are staying in the area. We saw a turtle near the island, which was nice. There are picnic tables and a sign on a tree showing how high the waves were during a tsunami.

    Love this place
Love the place! We came back to Hilo after two years and this was a place we needed to visit! Went straight to the jump and my boys loved it. About a 12’ and 20’ jump. Atmosphere is awesome and the amount of of turtles on this day was amazing, like 15!!

This little island is really pretty- its pedestrians only. The history of tsunamis marked on the tree was really neat to read about. Seeing the island at sunset from the adjacent park was a beautiful sight.

Coconut Island was located in a beautiful area. We came here first thing and it was so nice to walk, listen to and see the ocean, and enjoy the views. There are a few facilities here for restrooms and picnics. It's a pedestrian only island which is nice. There were dogs here enjoying the beach, everyone was happy!

It’s a cute walk around with a view of Hilo across the bay. Took about 40 minutes to casually to circle the little island and peek at the waters surrounding it. Stop by the ice house next door and grab an exotic fruit ice pop.

There isn't much here but there is a public bathroom if you are picnicking and planning a longer stay. The location can't be beat, and there are plenty of coconut palms and other nice trees. The views are great, but this is more about sitting on a rock with your feet in the water, or finding a table for lunch, or possibly fishing. The larger park on the other side of the parking lot has much more space for kids to run around, but it isn't called coconut island!

Our family of five from Texas and Oklahoma visited Oahu and the Big Island for Spring Break! While staying in Hilo, we walked to Coconut Island a couple times. The views from the island are so pretty! We watched several kids jumping off the tower. We even did some geocaching on the island!

We stumbled upon this place after grabbing some
Like for lunch and wanting to sit somewhere scenic to enjoy it. If we were prepared with our swimsuits and snorkels I’m sure the kids would have gone into the water. This is probably a great site for beginner snorkelers to practice getting comfortable. This place has some nice benches for lunch and even someone was hosting a birthday party. Nice casual city stop.

Coconut Island is really nice to spend an hour or so. It is in a quite part of the harbor and has a jump-off point for those brave enough to jump into the bay. Great for relaxing with friends and family, or even by yourself for some quiet-time.
