I am fascinated by the Indian Wars of the 1860s and 70s but had never traveled west to see any of the hallowed battle sites. It is SO amazing to stand in the very spot where history was made; this is an extremely beautiful area as well. It's hard to believe that so few men held of an overwhelming attacking... More

Second time we have stopped there. If you are a history buff or especially like western history it is very well worth the stop. Only takes a few minutes to look over the site.

It does not look like much but I learned a lot when I visited the site. What I thought what a wagon box was and what I actually saw gave me a new appreciation for what the men and women went through.

The setting is very beautiful and the signage is quite helpful. Though there is not the mystery attached to this place as at the Fetterman and Little Big Horn sites, it is still a site not to be missed.

We visited this battlefield in addition to Ft. Phil Kearny and the site of the Fetterman Fight. This battlefield location is some of the prettiest real estate I've ever seen, in addition to being the site of an impressive fight.

The site is marked to show where the wagon boxes were arranged in an oval. There is a monument and a good view of the mountains where the wood cutters were working. I drove several miles on dirt roads to get there, but it was worth the effort. I spent probably 45 minutes there. There are quite a few signs... More

If you watch history tv shows or are an avid history buff, you will enjoy this monument. Much of what happened as the West was won came down to a few important battles. This was one that flys under the radar. If you find yourself having traveled this far into the Big Horns, you won't want to miss an opportunity... More

The Wagon Box Fight Monument depicts a chilling and fascinating day in the 19th Century. The monument is very simple, but the fight was epic in its scale and intensity. It is fascinating to visit in the morning and imagine the scene. Great stop for anyone interested in the history of the West.
