Jenny Lake is a definite “don’t miss” on your trip around the grand loop. Allow time to take the shuttle boat ride across the lake (12 minute ride and you can take one way and walk back or round trip). Boats leave every 15 minutes and are well organized. The shuttle drops you off at the foot of the mountain and hiking trails. Favorite trails are the .5 mile trail up to Hidden Falls (it’s not a Yellowstone 150’ falls but pretty all the same). And then it’s a little more adventuresome but still relatively easy .5 mile hike up to Inspiration Point for beautiful panoramic views of the entire lake. It’s just a little rockier hike and good solid foot ware is recommended. And then for the much more adventuresome, there are additional hikes above inspiration point but these are more strenuous and should only be tackled by the more experienced hikers. Parking can be a little intimidating at Jenny Lake so allow plenty of time. They also have a nice visitors center and store and restrooms.

Jenny Lake overview can easily be visited by a slight detour from the main highway through Grand Teton National park. It affords very scenic views indeed of the Grand Teton mountain range.

We hiked the whole Jenny Lake loop and it was full of stunning views! The hiking trail was not too difficult on the first stretch to the waterfall and was only a little more difficult the rest of the way but I would not rate it higher than intermediate hiking. I highly recommend even if you can only do the first part!

Beautiful.. Great location. small visitor center but helpful Ranger staff. Restrooms and lots of parking incl. RV parking spaces.
It gets very crowded in this parking lot by 9:30 AM. We were traveling in an RV so were glad we got there before 8 AM.
A nice little paved trail to the lake. Bonus..it's the only trail you can take your dog on a lease. We loved that part.
This area is a must to see... Very beautiful

Beautiful place to visit with good facilities. It was very hot for us in mid September so too hot to walk too far. Very busy so had to queue for parking. A good place to come back to in cooler weather.

So nice to discover this beautiful lake in the middle of the mountains. We took the shuttle boat across the lake and hiked to Hidden Falls. It's not a long hike but it's not exactly an easy hike either. There are lots of rocks and uneven steps. Be sure to go back the way you came. There is a sign on the left on the way down which directs you back to the boat dock but that way is a considerably more difficult walk. The falls are pretty and worth seeing...unless you live near Niagara Falls as we do..It's hard to find a waterfall that isn't disappointing after you've seen Niagara Falls.

We are staying in Teton Village and would like to take the better part of the first half of the day and hike jenny lake next summer. Thing is, because those roads are currently closed till May, I'm unable to get idea of how far away that is and how far of a drive it would be. Do you have a guess?

We stayed in Downtown Jackson and it was about a 20 minute drive as well. get up and go early, as this is a popular hike that gets very busy. We hiked to the waterfall and then took the boat back across. It got really hot as the day progressed so this worked out well. Although this is a busy trail, we were still advised to bring bear spray, which you can rent or purchase. It is beautiful, so make sure you have a good camera or your cell phone for pictures.

Between Jenny Lake and Laurance Rockefellar, which one would you recommend for non-hikers? Traveling with a couple in their mid-70s that enjoy scenery and walking, but aren't able to hike.

If you take the boat across the lake to do a short walk, it may be too much because your walking up steps and incline. There's plenty of scenic walks around the lake by the river.
Altitude gain from Lake to hidden falls view point
Glad to know about reserving a camp spot. I was trying to figure out how high I had climbed as I’m 81 and went up to Hidden Falls

Follow the path from the visitor's center to the actual Dock. You purchase your tickets right there at the dock, it is not expensive and they take cash or credit. We purchased round trip family, but decided to take the hike back and loved every minute. (It's 3 miles back to the dock.)

We will be at Jackson Hole September 22 and 23. Will canoes still be available for rent? Do you have 3-passenger canoes?

Hello, Jenny Lake boat shuttle closed for the season on 9/11. You should be able to rent a canoe in the town of Jackson though and launch at the boat ramp at Jenny Lake.

Yes you can rent boats from June through mid-September depending on weather. Non-motorized canoes and kayaks are available for $20/hour or $75/day. There is also a shuttle you can ride across the lake for $15 roundtrip. The boat dock is in the South Jenny Lake area. Follow the signs from the Jenny Lake Visitors Center.
