Overview
More
Established in 1843 by Jim Bridger and Louis Vasquez as a trading post for travelers along the Overland Trails. Between 1853 and 1857 it was a Mormon Trading Post for emigrants to Utah. From 1857 to 1890 it was a US Army Post with several companies of infantry assigned to frontier protection. In addition to an authentic reconstruction of the Bridger-Vasquez fort, many historic structures from the military period still exist on site and are open for tours daily 9-5 from May 1 through September 30. In the off season from October 1 to April 30, the Museum building and grounds are open Fri-Sun 9-5 (weather permitting).

We stopped here and checked out the museums. We bought hard candy and explored the exhibits. We didn't spend too much time, maybe about an hour.

I arrived here on a beautiful fall morning right when they opened. I first went to the museum, then took the short, unpaved path to the replica of the Jim Bridger Trading Post before visiting many of the thirty-six remaining structures on site. The museum...More

Fort Bridger was an amazing experience. Our tour guide was helpful and nice. We had gone to a authentic gift shop with dirt floor and a roof made of sod. Next door there was an authentic blacksmith shop.

This site includes a pretty nice museum (although it could be more interactive) and a nice assortment of restored 19th-century buildings from when it was a trading post, then an outpost for the Mormons, and then a federal fort. Also not to be missed--and maybe...More
