After having lunch at the Pahaska Tepee’s The Lodgepole Room Restaurant, we went to see Buffalo Bill’s Original Hunting Lodge. It is free to get in. Walking in was like stepping back in time. The lodge is very well preserved. The area is beautiful, sitting among tall pine trees at the foot of majestic Cody Peak in Park County Wyoming. A gentleman who looks just like Buffalo Bill was there and talked about the Lodge and Buffalo Bill. We could have listened to him for hours but, unfortunately, our time was limited. It is very interesting to see how Buffalo Bill lived. It was built in 1904. It was called Pahaska after the nickname given to him by the local Indians - it means “long hair.” One of his frequent guests was Teddy Roosevelt. Don’t forget to stop in for an interesting experience.

What a pleasant surprise! We visited this location at the recommendation of touring guide, Kim, bought two excellent sweatshirts and she made sure that we visited the Buffalo Bill hunting lodge. A gentlemen who looks just like Buffalo Bill shared some of the history of the great man and the lodge. He looks just like Buffalo Bill Cody and is a treasure that you don't want to miss.

Good place to stop for gas, food, souvenirs and walking into Buffalo Bills Hunting Lodge. Last place for fuel before entering YNP but there is fuel available in the Park at several locations.

This was our go to spot for grabbing coffee and breakfast items on the way into the park. On the way out, people can stop for a drink at the bar or bring home a 6 pack.

Charming stay. We enjoyed the peaceful setting for a good nights sleep, good steak dinner and browsing the fun little gift shop. Dog friendly stay with our two dogs. I Recommend the double queen room for extra space and expect to enjoy a media free evening, this is not a chain hotel. Go for the experience, history and wilderness.

Nice cabins, great people, surprisingly good food. Has the ambiance of the old West of course with Buffalo Bills original cabin there. Saw deer and a grizzly was seen before we got there.

Pahaska Tepee was a nice place to stay around Yellowstone without paying "Yellowstone prices". It was comfortable with no phone or internet services. The restaurant allows in-door seating with no table service (order at the counter). Although the food was a little over priced, it was good and plenty. A short stack of pancakes (2) filled the full sized platter and 2 of us could not eat both pancakes. Other dishes were equally sized making them a bargain in the end.
The cabins near the ravine are a little scary but picturesque.

I was sad more of the buildings weren't open here, but the history and outside exhibits gave lots of information. So this is actually the hunting lodge of Buffalo Bill and he hosted celebrities/digitaries here. However because they weren't masking/social distancing, we didn't try the restaurant and left the shop early. Not much in the grocery store aside from basics and the gift shop was petty kitschy.

The service was excellent and the staff super friendly and very professional. BUT having seen the rooms I must confess this is not a place where we would normally stay but we had no choice, it was the only room to be had unless we travelled all the way to Cody. Further our room as in an end unit and the person staying in the front blocked our car so we could not leave early in the morning. So apart from the the staff we were really not impressed at all. It really needs updating and renovating.
