Visited summer of 2020. Did the Trillium trail (~1.5 miles).
Very very unmaintained. Many sections overgrown with spiky plants or reclaimed by the swamp.
About 20% of the trail is nice boardwalk, the rest requires hacking through “aggressive” foliage or jumping from log to log placed in deep mud.
It’s a swamp, so be ready to be swarmed.
There are some pretty views, including one board walk suspended over a swampy pond.
If you’re going in 2020, long pants, sleeves, and bug spray are a must. Hiking boots and a machete would be useful as well.

Okay, I'll try again. Last time I reviewed Woodland Dunes it didn't take. I asked Trip Advisor where my review was, never got an answer. So here goes again. If you are a birder, like to hike, or just commune with nature, this place should be a magnet to you. This is a non-profit organization. There are miles of trails. The diversity of habitats is very diverse. Great special events, always something to do. Whether it's observing warbler migrations, watching the banding of saw whet owls, watching osprey raise their young, or if you just want a great place to walk and leave the polluted and hectic world behind, you will want to go here. Staff is always friendly. Don't have a birding book? You can purchase one in the store that is in an older, but handsome, building that is the headquarters. There are actually three distinct areas which make for more habitats to explore. Walk the butterfly garden, climb the new observation tower, walk the boardwalk into a marshy area. It's all good! I, myself, go out there at least three times a month. If you run into me, I'll show you edible plants and help with bird identification. If you are a fan of Mother Nature you will find kindred spirits here; and you just might find a friend for life, a wonderful place. If you find yourself in Two Rivers (if you want to blend with locals say "Trivers") I highly recommend that you spend some time at the Dunes. You WILL enjoy your time there. Did I mention it's free; but leave a small donation to help keep it going. Hoka hey!

Woodland Dunes is a non-profit wildlife refuge. There are numerous trails for hiking and nature study and bird watching. Depending on the time of the year you can see ospreys nesting, saw whet owl banding, and warbler migrations. This is a friendly, well managed place to forget about the hectic world we live in. Go for a walk in the butterfly garden, peruse the store and museum, climb the observation tower. Anyone there will be friendly and a kindred spirit to those who appreciate the natural world. I cannot emphasize how healing it is for the body and spirit to spend a few hours in this remarkable preserve. If you find yourself in Two Rivers (Trivers to the locals) find Woodland Dunes and spend some time there. You will glad you did. This is where I go to recharge a couple times a month.

This nature center is great anytime of year. I recently went hiking on the Ice Age Trail at the Dunes with my dog. This 2.7 mile trail is pet friendly and a perfect hike to experience nature even in the winter time. Park right behind the Aurora Medical Clinic and hop on the trail. I am looking forward to the Woodland Dunes Candlelight Night Hike in February. Already planning our Two Rivers water trail kayak trip this summer at Woodland Dunes Nature Center.

This is a great, small nature center in a small town but is well tended by volunteers.
There is a boardwalk out into the marsh that leads to an area where you feel as if you are totally isolated from the rest of the world. Sit and listen.
Another trail leads through meadows and woodlands. Go slowly and enjoy.
The butterfly garden had many varieties of flowers that attracted lots of butterflies.
The osprey nest was the best! It was occupied by a female and a hatchling. While we were there, the male returned with a fish for them then took off again. It was so cool to watch them. Their website even has an osprey cam.
There is a small gift shop. Go and support them!

Woodland Dunes has tons of things always going on! My son & I went out for a night to see the stars. There were not as many people as I would of thought but it was one of the best nights! They would set several scopes in different places in sky & we seen a ton of things! They explained and are very kind about making sure everyone is welcome to ask questions. If your looking to do something I would head out and take a look for yourself! Check their website for events & times.

It is a very nice relaxing trail. Mostly boardwalk. And they have a tower to get a better view from up higher. You may see deer or fish or big birds. It is also a short way to get to the Ice Age Trail. They have events and learning experiences for kids, and I believe you can get a newsletter from them.

We visited this nature reserve in late July, and we found it to be a place of wonder. We walked the wooden plank walkway to its end, and we saw some wildlife. We also watched the osprey young contemplating departing their nest (we watched live and on the closed circuit television within the center. If you want to know about the wildlife of this region, this is a do-not-miss attraction which is free!!

Two Rivers has a little gem in it's midst. I needed something to do on a Saturday morning and found out that the preserve was having a butterfly day. The presentation were very informative but the grounds and trails themselves are the reason to visit. The preserve has a small but beautiful butterfly garden that was more populated with bumble bees during this visit which was just fine with me. The nature had many trails of different lengths for any walker and wonderer. If I'm back in town I'll be sure to visit it again when I have a few hours and want to decompress.

The staff was really nice. They explained things very well to my young children so they could understand. My kids loved the turtles they have inside.
Plan on going back again soon!
