This place is so amazing. Frank Jr is a fantastic narrator of the universe. I can tell he’s honed his craft over the years. You have to call/text to make reservations and he only has a few shows a week, but it’s so worth the effort. He’s put his heart and soul into this planetarium an entertaining/educating families.

Kovac Planetarium is a self built planetarium between Rhinelander and Crandon Wisconsin. Reservations are required. The planetarium show is offered only by reservation. Call to see if
there will be a show that meets your schedule. It is an excellent show.

I took my family here today, and couldn't get home to write a review fast enough. I just kept thinking and saying, "This is AMAZING!," and it truly is. I kept asking Mr. Kovac questions, completely unable to grasp how this one man (with very little help it would seem) created this amazing planetarium. It was fascinating, really. The thing that really got me is that this was a true labor of love, and it shows in the details. I kept forgetting that these stars were PAINTED on the ceiling of this globe. Hand painted. By this one man! I want to tell everyone that this is a destination if you are up north. Run, don't walk to the Kovac Planetarium in Monico. You will be so glad you did :)

We had a wonderful time at the Kovac Planetarium.
Frank is very knowledgeable. The presentation was great!
If someone had led me into the planetarium blindfolded and told me to open my eyes when I was seated I would have believed I was outside under the night sky!
We will return with our grandchildren.

When I first learned about the Kovac Planetarium on CBS's Sunday Morning about 3 years ago, I wanted to go. Now that we live nearer (350 miles), we made it the destination for this summer's trip. As we got closer, I was worried that I may have built this "destination" into more than it would be. It was fabulous! The group we watched Frank's presentation with ranged in age from about 5 to over 70. EVERYONE was involved. I heard not one word of complaint. Frank makes it not only easy to learn, no matter what your prior knowledge of the night sky is, but fun. I recommend going to the Kovac Planetarium to everyone!

Great for kids and adults! Very unique, and you will be amazed! Children under 5 will have a hard time sitting through it, but those in the 7+ age group as well as adults will find it very interesting.

My wife and I took a 10 day tour of Wisconsin last month. We saw lakes by boat, sea caves by kayak, the Dillinger shoot out spot, the Dells and a lot of beautiful country, but the most interesting attraction was the Kovac Planetarium. Frank Kovac has, through grit, determination and love of astronomy built an impressive facility and he presents a fascinating, educational and entertaining program. If you are ever in the area of Rhinelander, WI don't miss this place! It is a short drive from Rhinelander and a little off the beaten path but well worth the trip. (Best to make a reservation) And by the way, if it weren't for Trip Advisor we wouldn't have known about this attraction. Thank you Trip Advisor! Tom and Carol Simi Valley, CA

As amazing as this place is, and as great and informative as the sky show is, the real story here is how the planetarium came to be; the owner/host built it with his own hands. It's heart warming to listen to Frank Kovac talk about his planetarium and teach you about astronomy; this man has, clearly, found his passion. A visit to Kovac Planetarium is so educational and inspiring. I highly recommend this attraction.

WOW! Frank Kovac, Jr. was determined to build a planetarium and we got to see the fruit of his labor. This man has a passion for the night time sky as evidenced by his meticulous handcrafted planetarium located on his own property! While most planetariums have rotating projections, Kovac's actually has a rotating dome! It's incredible to imagine him painting each star, planet, and the milky way not only to scale but also in accordance to proper brightness / magnitude. We were more impressed with his undertaking as he detailed various steps he took to make his dream a reality. Frank Kovac, Jr. is a very humble man who has an exciting and unique masterpiece to share with the world. He is extremely knowledgeable and was very patient with our many inquiries.Kovac even allocated time for viewing planets through telescopes. For those who truly enjoy studying the night-sky and value how intimately familiar others are with it, this is worth your time. This was an excellent educational opportunity for us and it really opened our eyes to what one man with a passion can do!

In 2015, we took 2 of our grandchildren to Kovac's. LOVED the trip and science lesson!! On Wed. August 17, 2016 we came back with 2 other grandchildren. They couldn't believe such a wonderful place was so close to home! Frank is the BEST narrator and he has to be a genius to have built this place - it's the world's largest revolving mechanical planetarium and it's right here in Northern Wisconsin!! Frank and his late father have the most interesting life story. I'm on our local school board and I'm going to try my best to fit a visit or 2 into our school calendar. Our whole family likes looking for the constellations on a dark night at our hunting shack, and we think of Kovac's Planetarium each time we find one. Frank gives all of us that attend any of his presentations a new outlook on the "stars in the Heavens!" Dianne G.
