There were a lot of creepy people nearby and I did not feel safe here. Sure enough we saw in the news a massive gang ininitaion shooting less than 24 hours later and where innocent people were told to be shot. Plus to get to the water you have to walk across this plowed stinky mud field.

I took a day trip here from Chicago, got there early in the morning the beach, grounds and concessions stand was clean and very cute. The water is crystal clear unlike Chicago. We had an enjoyable morning until around 4pm when a really questionable crowd started rolling up. I could see gang fights being a regular thing here. Disappointing, when we started packing up it was clearly an issue judging by the police presence. Sorry Racine your town and beach is adorable but really not worth a side of gun shot wound. Oh also for those driving from Chicago you will briefly drive through this questionable neighborhood off of the highway.

Literally miles of beautiful sand beach stretch to the north from downtown. Racine's uncrowded beach is exceptional. There is a snack building at the south end of this seven mile long stretch. Even in mid summer the area by the snack house (where the volley ball courts are located) is not crowded. Further north you can feel like the privileged owner of a private stretch of beach, all for free, thanks to the taxpayers of Racine.
As one looks north there is the wonderful lighthouse at Windpoint to compete the picture. (Worth a visit, also.)
Downtown, with its many restaurants, shops and museums, is not far from the beach. The white sand is clean and extends far into the lake. The city patrols the beach to keep it clean and safe. The small dunes a bit north of the main area are being protected by the growth of various plants and small trees. The shoreline slopes out at a very shallow angle, making for a vast wading and swimming area. During the summer lifeguards cover much of the beach. If you like to fish, either on shore or in a boat, this is a great place. There is an annual salmon tournament here. There are much more expensive towns along the lake which have only small beaches.

We found this place from a friend who went and visited last year. What a great spot! The sand is amazing and they have lifeguards on duty from 10-6, which is a plus for a free beach. There is a concession stand called the Oasis that sells food, candy and beverages and tables to eat at outside. Right outside of that is an area that has several hammocks and chairs to hang out in. We visited second week of June and it was still a little chilly but there were still some kids in the water playing. I think if you want to be able to hang out in the water (although it will probably still be freezing!) and be comfortable late June/July/Aug would be your best bet. I didn't see a place where you could rent chairs so bring your own. We stayed at the Radisson Harbourpointe and it was under a mile walk there or they have a free complimentary shuttle through the hotel. Great place can't wait to go back!

Definitely not the ocean. Although cleaner than other local beaches the stinky Lake Michigan smell reminds you that it's not that great. Very polluted water.

We were looking for a beach that didn’t require us to travel around the south end of Chicago to get to our usual destinations in southeastern Michigan. Very happy to learn about North Beach. Well cleaned and maintained beach. There’s some trash in the water, but there’s not much they can do about that and I’ve learned that’s a sad reality of the Great Lakes around big cities. They clean the beach itself well when things wash up. There are lifeguards on duty which is a huge plus. Close facilities to use the washroom. Not a great place to change though, so keep that in mind. There is also a concessions area to get drinks or food. Moderate prices and ok quality. There is also a nice playground right off the beach.

I've spent my life on the shores of Lake Michigan, and North Beach was always ther. It was not until I traveled the whole 50 states the entire Caribbean and much much else of the world that I realized what a true gem of a beach we have right here in Racine. A broad expanse of sand, nearby parking, big spaces, birds to chase, castles to build, and water that begins with a gentle slope for entering...dogs not allowed...who needs the Caribbean in the summer?!!

My husband competed in an Ironman 70.3 race that started on this beach in Racine, so that was the only reason why we were there. He attended the race last year and kept telling me about the amazing beach and park. I honestly thought he was exaggerating. How could a beach in Wisconsin be so amazing? Lo and behold, he was right. When I first saw North Beach Park, I was amazed. I grew up near the ocean, so I "look down" on "beaches" that are by lakes. This beach is very large and beautifully groomed. It's also very clean, with almost no garbage or other debris in sight. The city obviously takes very good care of the area. We traveled to Racine with our two children, ages 8 and 6. They loved playing at the beach and running in the waves (even though the water temp was only about 60 degrees-- brrrrr). We brought along towels, snacks and water. There's also a snack shack nearby that sells food and beverages. If you're in the area, definitely check out North Beach Park. Even if you're visiting Milwaukee, I'd say that this beach is worth the drive. It's a beautiful area and provides for an inexpensive outing that the entire family will enjoy.

We visited this beach park during summer, and really liked the place. It was a sunny day with shades of deep and light blue waters, just loved it!

There is a park right across the street where you can set up a grill.

Though I know people have parties there, the area is not roped off for private events, at least not when I have been there.
Here is the phone number to call and ask.

No shells but......there are many small rocks and smooth colored glass that wash up on the shore and that the kids can look for. Plus, a large children's playground - The Pirates Cove.
