The Paine Art Center and Gardens is a historic estate with art galleries and display gardens, located in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

The historic Paine estate serves as a multi-faceted museum for learning and inspiration. The museum preserves the mansion, surrounding architectural structures, and many of the interiors as they were created by founders Nathan and Jessie Kimberly Paine. Selections from the museum's art collection, much of which was acquired by Nathan and Jessie, are featured in the many rooms and settings of the estate. Outdoors, the Paine maintains and enhances numerous display gardens as "galleries" of horticulture with varied designs and thousands of plant specimens. In addition, the museum presents a wide variety of changing art exhibitions, from historical to contemporary, within the estate's galleries and gardens. The Family Discovery Gallery, located on the house's lower level, offers "hands on" activities about architecture, art, and gardens for people of all ages.

I was very lucky when I told the guide that I was from England and was interested in the history of the building and the family and then she broke the rules (I think) to show me the upstairs rooms, they were a complete revelation and absolutely stunning. I wonder if these are still viewable even if by prior permission.

This place is really nice and they have some amazing stuff. Unfortunately it's very small and you'll get through it in no time flat. Not a great way to keep kids entertained for very long.

Finally brought my family to the Paine's "Nutcracker in the Castle" event (this does sell out so you have to plan in advance) and we really enjoyed it. Our guide, dressed as Godfather Drosselmeyer, was quite animated and did a nice job interacting with the group. We were escorted to a room with a string quartet, served cookies and punch,... More

The Paine is worth a visit in any season. The gardens are gorgeous during the warmer seasons, and the Nutcracker display (in particular) over the winter is a gorgeous way to get into the holiday spirit. Other exhibits I've come here to see have also been terrific. I always bring out-of-town guests here to get a taste of Oshkosh history.

Went to see the Nutcracker display over the Christmas season and was amazed to learn of the history of the building beyond it's beautiful architecture. The building is often decorated to accentuate the season. It is maintained immaculately and offers a unique family history. There are generally guided tours available but a self guided tour is very informative with plaques... More

The Paine Art Center was something that totally took me by surprise. Feeling I was being drug there by my girlfriend to appease her, I could not believe that beauty of the nutcracker display! If anyone needed a dose of Christmas spirit, this display would have done it! Great for a family outing ! A little pricey for what you... More

Wonderful holiday experience. Go online and look at the description and pictures of this beautiful historic museum. I had visited earlier in the year year for another exhibit and I will continue to visit it is truly an Oshkosh treasure.

A stunning residence that appeals to everyone. They truly focus on the family experience, I first went there when they had the Downton Abbey Exhibit and it was very nicely done. Have been to several other events and truly appreciate their attention to detail.

The Paine Art Center and Gardens is a must see. If you are interested in viewing the inside of a mansion or if you are interested in a variety of wood used in woodworking, this is the home to see. This is an extraordinarily large home built on the dreams of a couple, and you will learn all about it... More
