Very nice rails to trail bike path partly through a National Wildlife preserve. If this path was paved it would be an easy 5 star. Only about a 1/2 mile section with some ruts.

Between LaCrosse and Alma, you can't really see the river too much. There is a nice outlook in Alma, but that is about it.

Buggy, needs to be brush cleared. Could not see Lake Onalaska for most of the trail. With the Mississippi right there, they need to cut down some of the under brush and trees so the sun shines in and you can enjoy it!

Whether you are walking or biking the Great River State Trail exceeds expectations. I have always seen wildlife up close on this trail. It is very well maintained. I highly recommend it

I started in Onalaska, and rode towards the preserve in Trempealeau. The trail was scenic for the first eight miles or so (till I got to the bridge that went across the Black River), after which it was just a lot of marshland on both...More

It is pretty sparse for Hotels in that area, you would probably have to go across the river into Winona Minnesota, or into the town of Trempealeau itself. From Downtown Trempealeau to the northern terminus at Hwy 35 looks... More
