This area is also known as the Burnham Block. The single block of homes are all Frank Lloyd Wright designs intended to make architectural design available to the average American. One of the homes is open for tours (check their website for hours). The others can only be seen from the outside except for special tour events.

This is not only a place to view these houses from the outside but twice a month one is available to tour on Saturday and one is available to book to stay in through Home Away. We did the later and were really pleased with our stay. Getting there from downtown is easy taking Wisconsin to 27th Street which becomes... More

The story of Frank Lloyd Wright is an interesting one. The house on display is original, and appears modern with a mission style, although built in 1916. This is a MUST visit when in Milwaukee. I think $15 is a little steep, but it is an unique building seen nowhere else.

This is a gem in Milwaukee. Worth a visit. You will leave with an appreciation of flw genius in the design and use of space in a home with a very small footprint.

Our first full day in Milwaukee was spent looking at architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright, Concordia Area, and Downtown area. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I hope the current occupants of the houses don't mind people standing on the sidewalk looking in!

One of the restored Usonian houses is open every other weekend, but drive over and take in the view from the sidewalks even if you can't take a tour. It's fascinating to see how the two-family homes evolved differently over the years. Where else can you take a picture with three or four Frank Lloyd Wright houses in the frame?... More

This group of 6 dwellings, some single homes and some duplexes were built in 1916. They were Frank Lloyd Wright's attempt to build affordable housing for the ordinary family. He experimented in providing modules that could easily be assembled while still maintaining his basic principles of design. Think IKEA meets Lego. The guided tour is excellent.

Usonian houses, even though Frank Lloyd Wright meant them for the masses, are somewhat hard to find. Many that exist have been modified and many more demolished, so it was a pleasure to find a cluster of them in this Milwaukee neighborhood. One was open when we went, but you could walk around the others enough to see them from... More

This is an awesome example of Wright's ability to incorporate his classic elements in a small-scale design. The use of space is extremely efficient and very interesting to view. Milwaukee is lucky to have this gem preserved.
