Stone dolls are a natural phenomenon that was created millions of years ago due to a volcanic eruption. Long-term erosion resulted in the shapes we can see today. In the central part there are stone pillars that have partially taken the form of people, and on the side of the hill there are pillars several meters high. The central part, according to legend, represents the wedding guests who are turned into stone.
BTW, we had no problem to reach them by car.

Beautiful Macedonian nature! It really is like a fairytale. Come and enjoy with your family in the pure silence. There are many tables to sit and picnic, but there is no running water or toilet just a village toilet so bring toilet paper just in case and bring some water to drink. Small but asphalt road leads to the small dirt parking lot in front of the entrance.

The rock formations here are great fun and worth a visit if you’re in the area but I wouldn’t travel specifically for this attraction. The area is small and this is a 15 minute visit at best. Nonetheless of you’re here the formations are really neat and worth a look.

These stone dolls created by nature have amazing shapes. What disappointed me is their size and the fact that they are located in a relatively small area. The area is very, very neglected. I do not think there are too many visitors here, but it's worth coming in good weather and taking some pictures of interesting shapes.

Apart from being actual volcanic rocks, these formations appear positioned quite similar to groups of people in a city square. If you're imaginative enough (and you haven't checked out the legend about this place before visiting) you cannot help picturing Ancient Hellenic Medusa barging in and turning everyone that looked at her into stone. And if you're overly imaginative, then I doubt you'd like the thought of staying here overnight and witnessing the transformation of rocks into men - e.g. pissed and angry from not seeing sunlight for millennia...

Bottom line: it's quite worth visiting. It is (at least) a geological legacy and a monument of Nature's invisible force. Yes, the site overall is not maintained well, it's even neglected. Most benches and tables are ruined, except for maybe 1 or 2. If you visit in summer it's tough to endure for more than an hour since there are almost no shades. The access road is far from clearly marked so (unless you use GPS maps or navigation) it takes all eyes open to find it...

But, once you do, it's worthwhile.

Just go there.

A detour worth taking. Similar to Djavolja Varos in Serbia but poorly kept. You can see there's been a fire that charred and ruined the wooden tables in the sitting area but it hasn't been reconstructed since. However, the attraction itself is beautiful with a nice viewpoint when you climb up high. All in all, worth a visit.

The "Stone Dolls" were fun to look at and walk around, but the site is pretty remote and poorly marked. Additionally, something has happened that a tourist has no hope of figuring out. Clearly an effort has been made to develop the site as there is a toilet, picnic tables, garbage cans, ticket booth, and two kiosks. But nothing has been maintained in a while. One of the Kiosks has been burned down, as have two of the picnic tables. The second, larger, kiosk is gone, all that remains is the concrete slab it rested on. One can only guess what happened. Having said that we felt safe during our visit and the locals we talked to were very helpful.

Road condition is very poor, even you can not use any road planner, gps map, they will not work/plan your road. The easiest way to reach the venue from Skopje: Heading to Kumanovo, then turn right, towards to Sofia (Bulgari). Travelling 32km on A2 (E-871), turn right at the sign "Kratovo". After 9,1 km, you will see a very colourless (and hidden but big) table with "STONE DOLLS" writings, you have to turn right here. Road is narrow, but built from asphalt. Follow the signs, and you will reach the dolls.
The dolls themselves are very interesting, made by the force of the nature (created by erosion, the power of the wind, and climate influence). There is also a legend about the monuments, what says that the figures are wedding guests who were turned into rocks.
It is very interesting to see.

Up a poor road (it becomes little more than a farm track) a few miles from the main road, this is well worth the detour. Great stone formations. Recent development includes a little tourist/souvenir shop, and there are some nice paths for viewing places, and picnic tables. It really is quite a picture!
