First, a correction to hours open - no longer open on Saturday.

One-room museum a part of and within mineral school building. No signage for museum outside. Inside main entrance, it’s room 125. Visitor parking is behind the building.

Once inside, some interesting artifacts and good narrative gives a flavor of mining history in region. Will take less than an hour to see everything.

We aren't from an area with coal mining activities, so for us the museum offers a view of the early mining days through educational exhibits of equipment and methods used by miners, as well as other insights into the early days of coal mining.
The museum is small, and it's somewhat hidden away inside the Mineral Resources Building, but it's very much worth a visit. The displays have changed since the last time I walked through, but I was only able to view through the windows this time due to missing the hours that it was opened for visitors. The displays are changed periodically, so I try to at least stop by and look through the windows whenever I travel to Morgantown.
I will add that I had the pleasure of knowing Royce and his wife Caroline during part of his 50+ years at the University, and he was an endless supporter and promoter of preserving the mining, petroleum and natural gas history and heritage of the Appalachian area. It is very fitting that the museum was renamed in their honor to recognize his never ending enthusiasm for remembering the history of those who came before us.
