...of a ship is probably it's most recognizable feature. I'm reading that in literature and films, it's sometimes made to be perceived as a cross, which I guess could symbolizes a whole lot of things. To me, this memorial reminds me of a horrible event that happened at place I once called home. To be honest, I thought more about my life in Hawaii then I did of the attack on Pearl Harbor while I was here. On the campus of West Virginia University stands this mast of the state's namesake battleship that was sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor: a huge piece of history and a priceless artifact. The USS West Virginia was the ship that Doris Miller served on during the attack when he manned an anti-aircraft gun to fight off the Japanese attackers. He's a hero and kind of an immortal figure in World War II history. I came here on a quiet Sunday, and there weren't many cars on the usually busy streets that intersect in front of this memorial. I was able wherever I am to park probably at a place where I shouldn't have and get a good look at its plaques and a bell which came from the first ship designated USS West Virginia, an armored cruiser. I'm reading that the bell from the battleship is it at the West Virginia State museum in Charleston. This is an awesome place to come and reflect and take a few moments to think about things. That's what I did. I thought mostly about wishing I was back in Hawaii and all the reasons why that would be a really bad idea. I guess I'm wishing that I was anywhere else than where I am right now but wherever I am, I always come to think that. So it doesn't matter if I care about wherever I am.
