About
Constructed of native hardwoods and stone, Halliehurst Mansion was patterned after a castle in the Rhineland admired by Mrs. Stephen Elkins, the former Hallie Davis. Completed in 1890, the house served as the Elkins' family summer residence. Standing next to Graceland, together the two palatial homes became the site of many elaborate social occasions and business gatherings.

Beautiful! Well kept, original, structure with rich history. Old Time Music playing in back ground! I was at an Appalachian Workshop that is held in October each year. The entrance was decorated with pansies and mums. The woodwork of the house inside is so beautiful it takes your breathe away. The stairway and rails are so amazing and the stories that are told and saved in the history of this beautiful place are just awesome.

I felt like I could see the people many years ago having their parties in their beautiful dresses, getting ready, hurrying about, preparing for them, using all these rooms, it is just so amazing to think about how this was used by them so long ago. You can almost see them coming down the stairs. You have to see it, stop in and use the ladies room, take a rest while there! Make sure to see the whole campus. Beautiful and well kept all around. Interesting history in this private college in WV.

We saw this building while driving around the college. We didn't go in but it is beautiful from the outside.
