The gallery though small is quite full of artifacts from Egyptian to Native American. If you are in town it is worth the visit.

The Stirrup Gallery is a great free place to go. Their exhibits showcase all kinds of interesting artifacts and fossils. They have everything from pottery and arrowheads to muskets, roman coins, and mammoth fossils. Their location in historic Halliehurst Mansion on D&E campus adds to the historic atmosphere.

Amazing display of American Indian, Civil War, Roman Coins, and prehistoric mammal items. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and anxious to help. Housed in a magnificent mansion that is listed on the list of historical buildings on the Davis-Elkins Mi College campus in Elkins, W.V.

I took my daughter to the Stirrup Gallery on a rainy day over spring break. I had no idea we had such a treasure trove in WV! The staff were amazing and interactive with us. My daughter was allowed to actually touch a great deal of the items, which was really cool. We could have spent days looking at the different arrowheads, teeth, Native American pottery, geodes, prehistoric bones, etc. we will definitely be coming back!

Came from WA state, saw this collection. Mezmerized by not only the historical and prehistoric artifacts. The curator, Mark should win an award for being knowlegeable and patient with lifeling learners!

We stumbled upon The Stirrup Gallery while we were in Elkins, WV to ride a Mountain Rail excursion. What a wonderful surprise. Mark Landham, the Coordinator of Special Collections spent well over an hour with us introducing us to the various collections in the Gallery. Whether your interests are powder horns, Roman coins, fossils or Native American artifacts you’ll love this gallery.

They have a fantastic collection of historical items with interesting breadth. The Roman coin display was especially well done. Hopefully the college will devote more space to this wonderful museum.

Glad we didn't miss this! So much history! Pre-historic to recent history, artifacts, fossils, etc... Even got to hold a 16 pound mammoth tooth! And a coffee grinder, just like my grandma's that was nailed to her pantry door. Great time for all.

The stirrup gallery is a must see when in Elkins. It is located on Davis and Elkins College campus and is open to the public. The artifacts and collections that are here are incredible! I really enjoyed every bit of my experience. The gun collection was really neat, and the coin collection is phenomenal. Take the time to go!
