Oh, with great reluctance, I write this review for White Grass is one of those special places you want to keep secret. But alas, I am duty-bound driven for those irresistible TripAdvisor badges. WG is a cross-country ski center and café located in the mountains of northern WV. To be sure it is not a resort with a 3-story lodge... More

The place where this resort is located Canaan Valley has a unique micro-climate that keeps the temperature about 10 degrees lower than surrounding areas. That, in turn, keeps the snow on the ground longer than anywhere within a day of drive from DC. Trails are well upkept with a total of around 40 miles in length separated into different levels... We visited White Grass over President's Day weekend. Fresh snow for past few days made for great conditions and although temps were frigid (-15 wind chill) cross country skiing keeps you warm! Beautiful scenery, and lots of friendly, happy people embracing winter. We just loved it, the Cafe was great for lunch and we came back for dinner. Excellent food,... More

1. My Background / Information. This was my fourth time to visit White Grass. I am a snowshoer and not a skier so my verbiage may not be accurate when describing some aspects of the facility. I have searched the Internet for another place to snowshoe (Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, etc) but have yet to find a comparable location. 1.a.... More

We have been going to White Grass for almost 20 years. There is no place like it. The skiing is fabulous and even when the mountain is "crowded" it is easy to find solitude. The groomers there are the best, making the most of their snow (whether there is a lot or a little) and setting up snow fences to... More

Public service announcement here as if you are looking for reviews on the cafe only you need to do a larger search of "Canaan Valley" as I have looked at Davis restaurants for years and never pulled it up until just by luck searching the whole valley. Cafe is the highlight of Whitegrass!!

Great skiing, great food, great people! Love White Grass.Went here for my second trip (first trip was in 2009) with my boyfriend this winter and enjoyed a fun day of free lessons on Winter Trails Day and had delicious homemade chili afterwards. Love cross country skiing here in the woods, it's beautiful! The staff and guests are all happy -... More

I've been up here heaps of times with my family and every time I leave with a warm heart! White Grass is a special place, whether you are invited up for Jack Frost in the opening of the season or for various events throughout. They are really wonderful people! Thanks for the free nature snowshoe tour this morning and the... More

Wondeful place. We keep going back. My experience has always been that there is darn little, effectively no cell service up there, and it has to stay that way because of a nearby research center, that needs the airspace to be cell phone free. Same problem for businesses along hwy 32 nearby. Let me know if that's changed. We use... More

This place has miles of trails and Chip and his team work to keep as much as possible open. They have a rentals for x-c skiing, telemark, skate-skiing, snow shoes. The repair and sell used and new skis, boots, polls, and clothing (well not used clothing). They also give a variety of lessons. Chip "farms" snow, which means that he... More
