Opened in the summer of 2003, the Clay Center strives to present a variety of arts and sciences all under one roof. The Avampato Discovery Museum is two floors of fascinating interactive science exhibits, while the ElectricSky™ Theater features planetarium shows. In addition there are a large performance hall and a small black-box theater, an art museum, a fun museum shop, and a cafe. There's something interesting scheduled virtually every night here!

We love the Clay Center and go there frequently. The inside is beautiful (including the restrooms). The children's area is wonderful. The productions (music, drama etc) are easily heard because of the good acoustics.

My wife and I go to the Clay Center every couple months. You have a good sight line from any seat. The sound quality is outstanding. They always have plenty of ushers to show you to your seat. They bring in excellent shows and performers on a regular basis. A good variety entertainment as well. The facility is easy to... More

We passed through Charleston on our way home from vacation and had a few hours to fill with a toddler. We found this place and it was absolutely perfect! Our daughter is almost 2 and really enjoyed the bouncy bridge and ball area! We checked out many other cool parts of the center and then returned to the bridge and... More

As with many so called museum and entertainment venues this too has become over priced. My children enjoyed annual membership for some time however it became to expensive. The concerts are generally over priced with the local big shots getting the prime tickets. No food/drink is permitted in the concert area. The childrens section is hands on interactive with much... Charlestonians can be proud to share the Clay Center with any out of area guest. It is a great place for locals, as well. The performance hall provides excellent acoustics, the exhibits are always 1st class, the play and educational area tailored for children is a great draw. The center constantly updates their amenities to provide benefit to membership. It's... More

We went there and realized it was made for children, while the exhibit was nice for adults we were done with in 30min tops. We had some children with us who had way more fun.

One of the best attractions in Charleston, WV. Entertainment is always available for all age groups. Have seen many performers here and the setting is so comfortable. Love the black marble.
