If you wonder why the park is referred to as Magic Island it is because often it submerges underneath the Kanawha River during high waters. Not much is there but it does make for a nice walk by the river. Often during different seasons events will be held there.

This park has a great bike trail and a playground and on the river. There is free splash park but the water wasn’t on, which made the park a little less than magical. We could not figure out how to turn on the water, several families came while we were there with hopes of the water being on, there are bathrooms which is a bonus! Enough to do to spend 30 minutes if you didn’t bring your bikes.

Come early or late in the day in the summer, not a lot of shade. Other than that its a beautiful and wonderful place for a brief hangout.
Please don't pay any attention to the review here about "danger". We've got some hateful bitter people in this town, and you'll find them along with the real danger in South Hills or the East End. Our local houseless population is amazing, friendly, and better people in every way than the folks who try to hound them to death.

First, this is NOT an island, it is a piece of land filled in to create a space for the 'low income and oppressed' of the area. Local bums hang out here and nearby. There is a great deal of violent crime in the area as well as drug addicts - the new democrat mayor has opened the doors of the city for criminals and bums to live comfortably. There is a children's water area - please check for needles and other paraphernalia. Go during the day but be diligent and watch your surroundings. There is parking under the bridge about 2 blocks away, again safety is a concern.

Lacking anywhere else to post this, the Magic Island park is part of an expansive 4.5 mile riverwalk that extends from Patrick Street to 35th street. Along this route are at least a dozen historical markers, the State Capitol building, downtown, the Eastern historic district, a amphitheater, etc. There are two paths for the riverwalk; a lower narrow paved path along the river and a higher/street level much wider paved path along the street. The western ~1.5 miles of trail (from Pennsylvania Ave to 35th street) are marked for cyclists and runners. There is free parking available in the central area of the riverwalk, adjacent to Magic Island under the I64 overpass.
Magic Island park has kids-aged water features and facilities. It also is the home for Charleston parkrun, a free weekly 5K every Saturday at 08:00 (summer) or 09:00 (winter).

This park was an Island built along the Kanahwa river. It is scenic and has play equipment for both children and adults.

Every single Tom that I go down to magic Island and try to let my kids play at the splash pad area the little water exhibit thing they have there it never works whenever we push the button is there a number or something that we can call downtown so that they can turn the water on up here or what do we need to do to make sure that this can turn on like it's supposed to I tried calling the city and I just got voicemail if anyone knows what to do to get the water turned on there please let me know thank you I just think that it's observed that these kids have this here and they say that they can play here and they come down here and just get their little hearts broke because we never can get the water to come on it's ridiculous

Is there parking at the park? I don't see any on the Satellite maps?
