How cool is it that smoke jumping was developed in Washington in the Methow Valley?

Go by for the tours and learn some history of a really awesome profession. The folks here are friendly and helpful.

I guess the smoke jumpers go home in September, but we were lucky enough to find someone left behind who did show us the equipment room and advise us to come back for a tour in the summer.

90 minutes of insight into the risk and reward of saving the forests of Washington. First hand conversation with the people who jump out of airplanes to prevent the fires in remote locations from spreading. Sit in the airplane that they use to get to the fire. If you are in the area and have the time do not miss... More

We visited the town of Winthrop which is a real western town with several nice shops. Just a short distance from town Anders, a rookie smokejumper gave us a great tour of the North Cascade Smokejumpers base. These fir fighter/jumpers are a phenomenal tough and dedicated group. This is definitely worth a visit. The tour lasted about 1 hour. It... More

Located about 10 minutes south of Winthrop - follow signs. My wife and I found the North Cascade Smokejumper Base very interesting. Leo, a rookie smokejumper gave us a personal tour. He is extremely knowledgeable and you could tell he really enjoyed his job. Before becoming a smokejumper, he was a member of a hotshot crew. The smokejumpers are definitely... More

Four of us experienced a very educational and learning experience by visiting the Base. Our host was most helpful and did a great job of introducing us to the important role these persons perform.

We had our own personal tour guide: a "rookie" jumper, but experienced hot shot firefighter! (This is clearly a highly elite group.) Friendly & very informative. We enjoyed the explanation of the process, the tour of the plane & the equipment hangar. We learned a lot; we had no idea, for example, that they custom sewed most of their own... More

If you're a pilot or a skydiver, you'll especially find this base interesting. The jump plane is a Spanish made Casa often used by skydivers at drop zones. Earlier smoke jumper aircraft were Ford Tri-Motors, Twin Otters, Beech 18, or a large single engine Howard. There are two repacking tables in the Loft. One rig was being repacked by a... More

We had a wonderful rookie jumper guide, who took us in the hangar where they store all the gear, do the sewing, and inspect the parachutes, as well as going inside the plane, and the storage hangar.

We were given a tour by one of the smokejumpers. Great guy who walked us through their equipment or explained the job.
