This was super, super expensive. We went for the long tour and booked to be alone in the helicopter to ensure we had the best views. All in around $1,000 but a truly remarkable experience. The tour is very long for a helicopter ride (45 minutes) which explains the price and the views are just amazing.

When we lived in Tacoma 45 years ago, we enjoyed visiting Spirit Lake for family outings. I had a great view of Mt. St. Helens from the summit of Mt. Rainier twice, in 1969 and 1971. We moved away in 1973 and then on a planned trip we were in Southwest Washington on the day of the 2nd eruption. Ash everywhere and we were worried that our vacation in the San Juan Islands would be aborted. But as we drove north on I-5, we passed out of the ASH zone just south of Olympia.
So this was our first return to St. Helens. It was an awesome trip to see the terribly distorted scenery that we used to take for granted. Our German pilot was courteous and efficient. I took many good photos including one back at Mt. Rainier

Yes expensive at $300 each but it is a once in a lifetime trip and the pilot had great commentary of the area. You can book online.

We did the 40 min tour into & over the crater......and yes, it was pricey, even though as a family of 4 went at the 'lower' rate. With 4 passengers, someone isn't going to get a window seat and if they're over 6ft they'll have to lean one side or the other to avoid the drive shaft.
That said, I'm glad we did it. Helicopters are very cool and it was a remarkable view. It gave us a totally different perspective from the one we'd just had at Johnston Ridge.
3 is the ideal number though 4 works if the 4th is easy-going.
If you have lolly but little time - do it. If you have time but no lolly - get a permit and hike up to the top.

If you really want to do something special make a helicopter ride over the descolated areas of mnt St Helens. Here you see mothers nature at his best.
Destructive, bare and beautiful. Flying with the helicopter is fun, but when you see the breathtaking views of the exploded mountain with all tree truncks, lying as chop sticks in one direction, yiu just become vety quite.
The service is great and the pilot was especially nice to my mom since she was just sooo enthousiastically jabbing in his microphone :-)

This was the highlight of our recent Oregon and Washington tour. We scheduled for an afternoon and the cloud cover was going to limit our tour. They were very accommodating and rescheduled us for the morning without any prepayment.

Needless to say, the next day was perfectly clear and our pilot, Robert, took us out for an amazing flight. I had some anxiety with the flight, but he was so methodical and confident, that he put me at ease. We were able to see so much of the transformation of the mountain. He took us up to the original height of Mt. St. Helens before the blast and then right down into the cone! It was thrilling. We also spotted elk and a herd of mountain goats. He was a wonderful guide and pilot and the other staff on the ground were excellent, as well.

The two person 45 minute your was not inexpensive, but it was an experience of a lifetime and not to be missed.

We've taken helicopter tours before and were really exited to see Mt. St. Helens up close. The weather was absolutely beautiful and the views were magnificent!
The issue was that there was something wrong with the headsets and we couldn't hear a single thing the pilot was saying. When we got back on the ground, they realized that there was probably a short in the wiring. The pilot graciously took us to view a map and tell us what he had been trying to tell us but it wasn't the same. We asked for a partial refund since the tour is VERY expensive but we never received anything nor heard back from them.
Be careful to find out if everything is functioning properly before paying for the tour because one you do, it's non refundable!

We took the Crater tour and it was epic! This was the entire family's first flight in a helicopter. Our pilot was professional and informative throughout our tour. The views were priceless! We originally had been scheduled for the 11am tour; however, the mountain was foggy in the morning. The company called us around 9:20am and asked us if we would like to move our tour time as it was going to be foggy around 11am. We found this to be very considerate! Our second daughter was free because she was under 12!

Really can not rate as we did not tour. Had reservation and did not call ahead. Got there to find bad weather was grounding us. They were nice about it just wish I called ahead that day to confirm. Weather was bad at Johnson Ridge so we did not see Mt. St. Helens.
