Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA.

We took our grandson and daughter-in-law to the Zoo while they were visiting for Christmas. It is a very clean and complete zoo with plenty of exotic animals. Our grandson was fascinated throughout. I particularly liked seeing the tigers. They were really much larger than...More

Small and very few animal exhibits. Don't plan on spending more than an hour here. There is not much to the zoo. Most of the exhibits are small and the admission is pricy for the size of the zoo. They do have a lot for...More

Beautiful setting at Point Defiance, lots of exhibits and docent presentations. Clearly a focus on humane and responsible animal care, and plenty of education about the species in the zoo. A winter Sunday found many of the food booths closed and probably fewer things like...More

The view of Puget Sound and Mt. Rainier from Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is the best zoo view of any I've been to. Aside from that, this is a wonderful, older mid-sized zoo that moved successfully to modern zoological standards with the broad support...More

Maybe it's better not in the Winter. Took my family to ZooLights (bought 21 tickets) and I want a refund. Two hours and $200 that I'll never get back. I was embarrassed and disappointed. I did warn everyone that I'd never been and wanted to...More

We took the family here and had a wonderful day seeing all of the animals. My daughter rode a camel and one of our FAVORITE things was feeding the budgies, NO NOT MISS THIS!

We visit almost every week. It's a great place to take a walk or a class. And we live about 20 minutes away. During the winter, months, you virtually have the zoo to yourself during the week. Get a membership if you live in the...More

Hello, According to their website, the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium is open 9:30am to 4:00pm daily, September 26 - October 31. The zoo is open year round, but in the winter the number of days open are reduced.

They will be open just about all year other than the coldest months of the year because most animals will hibernate. Going in October would be great as long as it doesn't rain and the day is not too hot but not too cold.
