Description:

Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium....

Treat your family to a special day at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium. Where else can you see seahorses and sharks, peacocks and penguins, wolves and walrus, all in one place? The 29-acre Zoo is large enough to offer an awesome array of animals yet small enough to let you get really close to them. Our keepers often roam the grounds, taking animals on strolls so you can see them up close. Who knows? You might run into a lynx on your way to see the polar bears! Be sure to visit Kids Zone. This fanciful exhibit engages children in active learning through play. The focus is on fun, movement and learning what animals need to thrive. The breathtaking views of Puget Sound, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains are free - and so is the parking. So what are you waiting for? Bring your family to see ours. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is open at 9:30 a.m. daily. Closing times vary. Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium is just minutes off of I-5 in beautiful Point Defiance Park in Tacoma, WA.

Located above Commencement Bay, the zoo is fun for young and old. It is located on a hillside but pathways are easy to navigate. They are currently building a new aquarium although the construction didn't cause any problems for visiting the zoo. Parking can be a bit hard to find if everyone wants to go to the zoo the same... We were on a road trip across Washington and made this one of our stops for my granddaughters. This Zoo was very well kept and clean. The animals were lively. The animal show was on the boring side but appreciated the effort. The petting zoo was my granddaughters favorite part. For a smaller zoo I was impressed.

For a small city - this would be a great zoo - but Tacoma and the surrounding area isn't that small. It seems with all the business and money floating around the area - it could be bigger. Also - with a day rate of $17.95 - it isn't cheap. We have been members for years and if we wish... More

Came with my wife and 2 children, and another family of 4. I felt the zoo was a bit spendy since they were remodeling some things. But overall, a decent kid friendly aquarium. Some sections rather hard to see some of the animals, but very clean and nice paths overall. It's a good family trip for a day, but keep... More

I brought my 2yr toddler here while visiting the area. Lots of great animals several are rescued from circus and other zoos. There were a couple different viewpoints for most of the animals so they were easy to see. The aquarium has an area to pet the stingrays, and has a great shark tank. It was raining as it does... This place has done a superb job of landscaping to maximize the space and provide for the animals. It may be one of the smaller zoos and aquariums I've visited, but it's well worth the trip. While there, be sure to take the five mile drive around the peninsula.

The zoo isn't huge, but hills. The aquarium is really nice. Educational and kid friendly. We had a spectacular time!

It was a good day! Lots to see and different varieties of animals. There was quite a bit of walking between animals, however. It was also very wooded, and shaded. So bring a light jacket for all, even in the summer! We plan to go back next summer. Great, reasonable pricing as well.

The aquarium is great! The zoo has kind of gone down hill over the years. Sometimes you see no animals.
