My wife and I just loved this museum. We are both museum professionals and have visited many tribal museums around the U.S. The Suquamish Museum is one of the very best. Whoever designed the central exhibit space here was nothing short of brilliant. You enter the space and are immediately bowled over by the sense of culture, longhouse, creativity and brightness. There are a broad range of objects on display and ample label copy to keep the visitor engaged and informed. Everything is up to a contemporary professional standard. The secondary exhibit space was devoted to a temporary exhibit on "Chief Seattle Days", on the history of the event and how the Suquamish people participate. We walked by the Veterans Memorial outside the Museum and took a very short walk to pay our respect at the gravesite of Chief Sealth the namesake of the city of Seattle. This Museum is definitely a great place to visit if you have a few days around Bainbridge Island/Poulsbo.

A thoughtful, well organized museum. The ladies at the front desk were extremely friendly, and helpful to explain the local story as well as the surrounding attractions.
It's worth it for a 30 minute short stop to explore the history.

We were headed to one of the state parks & ended up taking a slightly get detour to this museum. It’s a really nice and. Very informative museum. The staff is wonderfully nice; gave the kids a scavenger hunt map: and has a nice, appropriately sized gift shop. Part of the exhibit has amazing photos. Nice place a 60 minute educational break.

This museum is small and well worth the visit to learn about the native Americans in this area. We highly recommend it.

New to the NWP, this was one of our first stops. After growing up on the east coast, we were amazed at the many differences in lifestyle and culture from the the tribes back east. The exhibits were very impressive from the cedar canoe and sail to the artwork style that has been absorbed in to the mainstream without giving due credit! Their fishing nets were ingeniously. They could give us all lessons on a substainable lifestyle and recycling. Impressive!

Beautiful museum with the history of the Suquamish portrayed
In a cedar timeline. Examples of carving, weaving and maybe more importantly the use of cedar in their culture. Walk or drive to the church, behind it on the hill is the cemetery. At the top of the knoll is the final resting place for Chief Sealth/Seattle. A wonderful experience for all ages.

Really enjoyed perusing the exhibits here. Great job of sharing history, punctuated with the displays. Watched a woman pound cedar and she was very gracious about explaining what she was doing and why she was doing it the way she was. Well worth a visit.

This museum is small - really just one large room, one video room, a gift shop, and a garden - but the exhibit is particularly well-done and makes the most of its space. The tribe has done a beautiful job telling their story, first through the video and then through artful display of artifacts. Well worth the minimal entrance fee. Gift shop had a great collection of artistic items and books that appealed to all ages.

Not to mislead, this is a small museum, off the beaten path, but it is very well done and loaded with history for the members of the Suquamish Tribe and the people of greater Seattle. The museum is a pleasure to behold and the exhibits are very informative. I thought the information on the Long House was particularly interesting. A little way down the road is the final resting place of Chief Sealth, for whom Seattle is named; not to be missed.
I have driven past the cut off to this Museum many times and am happy that I finally had the sense to take the time to visit and learn the real history of this area and its native inhabitants. I wish I had taken the time a long time ago.

The Suquamish Tribe has recently completed a new museum facility. It is more than a collection of artifacts. It is the story of the vision of Chief Seattle for his people. While the museum is found in the modern community of the Suquamish Tribe with the glitzy casino and topshelf hotel, the wisdom of the Tribal elders can be felt in the museum. We were also privileged to enjoy Native American storytelling while at the museum. Northwestern Tribal art is also prevalent in the collection. The reservation is a ferry ride from Seattle across the Puget Sound to Bainbridge island
