The viewpoint provides a wonderful view of the Gorge. I am older and not an expert hiker, but was able to handle the climb to the view which is so worth the effort! The lower trail was closed when we were there to protect a habitat area so we hiked up to the rim for the view. Hiking boots are recommended as the trail can get muddy and rocky.

So quiet and peaceful there, nice trail, not too hard and such a beautiful area. Bring hand sanitizer as there are outhouses and no sinks.

One of the earlier stops on WA-14 (the views are great from the Washington side), just be aware that the pullout doesn't have much warning and parking is limited. However, the view is worth it so do make the stop.

We stopped off on our way home from Skamania lodge to take in the view at Cape Horn Lookout. This is one of the most spectacular views of the Columbia River Gorge. MUST SEE

What a view but be sure to be careful and on the ball when you look for the spot to pull off for the view otherwise you'll miss it and there are no places to turn and go back. But it's a truly amazing view if you're up for it.

I have driven past, and stopped frequently at the pull out, countless times. This is such a mesmerizing view. Sunny, rainy, snowing. The view is spectacular and never gets old.

Cape Horn is located on Washington Hwy 14 between the towns of Washougal and Stevenson. The highway is quite narrow and if you're lucky, there is room to pullover at the curve around Cape Horn. The view is pretty amazing so be sure to have a camera on hand. If you want to hike Cape Horn, there is a trailhead off of Salmon Creek Falls road. Bathrooms available. The trail is well maintained and steep at times. Summer/Fall is your best bet to hike without getting too muddy. Well worth your time!

Trail is 7+ miles long, with waterfall and great viewpoint, that is well worth the climb. The climbing on a clear and easy trail is gradual but long through groves of lichen and moss covered trees. View of the Columbia Gorge is beautiful. Recommend starting on the high trail to get the climbing done first if you are going to do the full loop. If you only want to view the waterfall, take the low trail.
Trail is a little confusing at the "viewpoint /horses" sign, that is a split in the trail, that rejoins later so you can take either side and they meet up later.
Note: on 12/22/2015 some sections of the trail were impassable dues to timber downed in the last storrm.

the view is excellent but there is really no place to park. The only parking is along side the Hwy and it is a small turn out but if your lucky enough to find a spot it is worth the look.

Cool place to see the Gorge and the surrounding mountains. The pull off is small and on one side of the road so getting in and out can be exciting. Something you should do when in the area!
