Jefferson Museum of Art & History is located in Port Townsend's historic City Hall building. The Museum features award-winning exhibits that display our unique cultural history of Maritime, Native American, and Early Settler life throughout its multiple galleries. The historic courtroom is now a rotating art gallery, displaying the works of noted artists. Once Port Townsend's Fire Hall, Courtroom, Jail and Police Station in the late 1800s, the building itself has many stories to tell!

During the summer, the Museum offers historic walking tours of our beautiful Victorian seaside city.

The Jefferson County Historical Society also operates the historic Rothschild House as well as the Commanding Officers Quarters at Fort Worden which are open to the public from May through September.

We have lived in Port Townsend for a long time, but never went to our local museum until now. They are hosting an art retrospective that interested us, so we were pleasantly surprised to find more to see than just the art. Found out quite a bit about Port Townsend that we didn't know! A fun visit to the jail... More

Definitely worth an hour of your time to explore this little gem of a museum. Probably the best display of life on the Peninsula from the early days. Lots of photos, the original jail (pretty scary), and a great amount of detail about little known early shipping secrets (you can get a real good understanding of where the term "being... More

Unfortunately we left this one until late in the afternoon. We could have spent a good half day there. There was an amazing antique quilt display there which we really enjoyed. The building is great. The staff is friendly. The displays are great! The jail is just like they say it is -- creepy! Admission price was extremely reasonable.

The building is a fabulous example of great 1880s architecture. The museum requires a small entrance fee and is enjoyable to visit at one's own pace--no docent or tour. The old jail is down the stairs and has interesting information about how men and women were incarcerated. Much good historical information to take in. There's a nice little gift shop... More

Live history tour! The best part is the museum admission is included in the price of the walking tour.$10 for adults $5 for children *maybe I can't find my receipt. Our guide was very knowledgeable about local history. She is able to customize the tour to the guests that attend (all while wearing a beautiful Victorian dress hat and gloves... More

As others have said in their reviews, this museum has a lot of local history. The first stop is a video, with some interesting information regarding the area and the people. This is one of three small museums run by the local historical society. A lot of information regarding the local industries and resources that made Port Townsend famous and... More
