We've visitied many really old military installations and this Fort's buildings are in the best condition we've seen. The Victorian officer housing duplexes are rented out to visitors and so many of the buildings house businesses and activities. Be sure to walk through the old batteries, take a stroll around the light house and meander along the rocky beaches. Dog... More

We are out to Fort Worden relatively frequently. The hiking is wonderful with varying terrain but nothing very arduous. There is a magnificent viewing area overlooking a beach and the Strait of Juan de Fuca at the north end of the park. The quietude and beauty of the locale is rejuvenating. A park pass is required. And, the rangers make... More

What can you do with your teenagers? Fort Worden is perfect, weather permitting, for outdoor fun. We walked the beach, rode bikes but they had the most fun at the bunkers. Day and night they had fun exploring, making up mythical ideas and ghost stories all in the attempt to scare each other. Special memories with no electronics!

Fort Worden has many miles of trails, a beautiful beach, and a military history. I live near this park, and consider it a treasure. We look forward to the returning birds each spring, enjoy the culture offered by Centrum, an arts non-profit and the many other entities, like MadonraMindBody, a dance and yoga studio, the Marine Science Center, Copper Canyon... Wandered around. Never had the time before. Did some Geocaching in the park. Checked some of the areas where An Officer & A Gentleman were filmed.

Fort Worden is very unique, and has a really cool history. I love hiking up to all the bunkers and going in them with friends. The beeches are clean and have a great view of the surrounding islands and landscape. Marine Science Center is fun, along with the museums that show the history of the fort. Definitely worth the visit!

No trip to Port Townsend is complete without a trip to Fort Worden. We explored all over the fort, batteries, bunkers, the lighthouse, cemetery, beach, houses, the museum. Definitely recommend for any trip you PT.

Be sure to bring flashlights so you can explore the underground batteries! Nice beach, too,and the lighthouse is open to tours in the summer.
