    One of the best
Easily, one of the best and must unique visitor centers that I have been to in the system. Such a unique design and welcoming environment. Rangers were very helpful. Only problem, is there are going to be lots of people all the time. Definitely worth the visit.

    Nice stop
Beautiful visitor center, compared to other National Parks we were pleasantly surprised. They had 3 rangers working the information desk, plus a theatre and gift store upstairs. Restrooms were clean and fairly modern. We had lunch, the selection was limited, but they had hot food, bagged snacks, a cooler full of ice cream and several drink options. The prices weren’t bad considering the location on top of a mountain. Best thing was our table was at the window with an unobstructed view of Mt Rainier. Outside there are trails leading to even more incredible views on a clear day.

    Nice, New VC in Paradise
Paradise is the premier visiting place with the best access to the mountain and the Henry Jackson Center is a relatively newly constructed facility for the Paradise VC. The building is a 2 story facility with information, souvenirs and restrooms. In addition it has a plaza area gathering space where people can meet before climbing the mountain or the Skyline Loop. From this area you can get great views of the surrounding Tatoosh Range and Rainier itself when it actually presents itself.

After hiking the Skyline Trail, my wife and I stopped into the visitor center mainly to get a cancellation stamp for her National Parks Passport Book. While there, I noticed they had a small gift shop and cafe that sold meals such as slices of Pizza, hot dogs, chilidogs, fries. It was a somewhat large center with places to sit inside and outside. They also had restrooms, which weren't very clean. In fact, they closed down the restrooms unexpectedly and forced everyone to use the public restrooms at the trailhead (which were even dirtier). Then later, they closed those restrooms and told everyone in line to go back and use the visitor center's restrooms. It was a really poor way to handle the situation, considering everyone in line really needed to use the restroom.

Note, that the parking lot at the visitor center fills up very fast, so plan to arrive at 7 am to beat the crowd.

Compared to other NP Visitor Centers, this one is the least interactive for kids, no taxidermied animals to look at, just an outdated lifted map of Mt. Rainier on a table. There is a theater room but no sign saying when movies will play, so we took a chance & sat in a dark room for 5 minutes until the movie began. The movie about Rainier was well-done though. The bathrooms were clean. The parking lot was completely full. Not sure why they can’t make a larger lot to accommodate visitors.

Very limited access to the building ... Rangers set-up outside the doorway to answer questions ... Limited hour hybrid gift shop open along the side of the building ... no access to the real visitor center interior

There are quite a number of trails you can do from the Paradise area where Henry M Jackson Visitor Center is. From here, we went to Myrtle Falls and did the Skyline Trail. We also did the Nisqually Vista Trail. We visited August 3 - 5 and the wildflowers were in full bloom. We also saw quite a few marmots in this area.

Parking can be tricky but the lot is big so if you don't come early, people should be coming and going and you shouldn't have any issues finding a parking spot.

Because of Covid they moved a lot of the gift shop to downstairs, and you can find beautiful gifts; I treasure the T-shirt I purchased there. Also a few food items are available.

Fortunately, we brought our own food. We arrived at 11 am on a Sunday and were directed to the overflow parking at the Paradise Picnic Area. Many cars were leaving by late afternoon. The Myrtle Falls trail was busy, so a mask is needed. The Nisqually Trail was less crowded, but had some gradient in a few places.

Great spot to see the mountain when their isn't any clouds or fog. The parking lot does fill up quick. Their are several great trails nearby that have good views as well as waterfalls. Some are very steep but they are worth it and all are paved.
