The Winery in the Woods
Aug 2018
This little gem is truly The Winery in the Woods. Off the beaten track, outside Onalaska, Washington. Owner/Vintner Carol Wells is the fascinating host of this specialty winery that produces some truly amazing fruit wines. Most of her fruit is grown on her property or that of a few friends. She will regale you with tales of her, and the Winery, history while pouring tastes of her wonderful wines. We tasted her Badass BlackBerry, Rippin Raspberry, Crazy Cranberry, Pleasant Plum, Chillin Cherry, Radical Rhubarb, Bouncing Blueberry, Positively Peach, Awesome Apple and Enchanted Elderberry. Her winery and tasting room are a converted garage/carport with all the quaint ambiance of a country cottage. A cute "outhouse" serves your needs, if you catch my drift. There are signs on the road and a GPS really helps but beware, the driveway is almost hidden and looks like a woodsy farm road. (Which it is.) Carol is open only on Sundays but if you drive in and she's home she is more than glad to meet you and open her quaint winery "just for you." This cute little limited quantity shop is a must for the wine afficianado. You won't find any grapes here, just some amazing fruit wines and the friendliest host for miles around. We highly recommend this little winery and will definitely be back when we return to Washington. BTW, we took 6 bottles of her "nectar of the Gods" home to share with our good friends. Keep up the good work Carol and well see you again.
