The Long Beach peninsula is blessed with a beautiful 28 mile beach. Sadly, the locals long ago decided this would be the perfect place for a beach freeway. On our first visit in ten years we went to the most beautiful part, the gem of this coast, a natural amphitheater of rocky cliffs called Beard's Hollow. In a ten minute walk on the beach to the end of it, we counted 27 parked cars. So much for enjoying nature. If parking lots and drag racing are your cup of tea, you'll love Long Beach. If not, you might want to keep on trucking and find more secluded beaches that have been left with respect.

If you're from the East Coast or Great Lakes region, be aware that:

1) Cars are permitted to drive on some sections of the beach, but not others. If you want a car-free experience, ask your hotel which section of the beach to go to. Or go to any beach in a state park or Willapa National Wildlife Refuge at the peninsula's north end.

2) You can dip your feet in the water, maybe even up to your knees, but the water is cold, and it's far too dangerous to swim in given unpredictable waves and riptides. Long Beach Peninsula beachs are NOT swimming beaches, although we saw a few surfers. There are also plenty of jellyfish. The clear ones that wash ashore aren't poisonous, but avoid stepping on the jellyfish with redtentacles and trim.

3) People were swimming at Cape Disappointment State Park's Waikiki Beach, near the North Jetty. That's because it's a more sheltered cove. Still, don't expectwater temperatures from Hawaii's Waikiki; this is Washington state.

despite the claim, surely this cant be the longest beach in the world.

but nevermind, this beach is still unique. it is mostly compacted enough to drive a AWD / high clearance vehicle along the pacific ocean without issues. but 4x4 will be better.

2wd sedan can go close enough to the water 46.35172237525854, -124.06503525257162 but i caution against driving too far away from this spot as you may get stuck

combine the visit to long beach with cape disappointment state park

I’ve lived in nearby Tacoma for 30 years and have been to all 39 counties in the state, but until yesterday, had never been to Long Beach. Everytime we want to go visit the ocean, we go to Ocean Shores which is about half the distance and time from our house. After visiting, I can say that Long Beach is well worth the extra time to drive there. There are lots of interesting shops and great places to eat, especially if you like seafood. And you can drive right into the beach, which was less crowded than Ocean Shores! We can’t wait to go back and stay overnight so we can explore the rest of the peninsula.

Well if you want to see an ancient tree we found what one friend called the oldest tree in miles, practically petrified. We had to explain to him it was not a real tree, he actually walked away until he googled it. The beach was amazing to see the waves and just the sand moving because of the wind was great. If this is your first time I would suggest driving over in the light, i came over around 7pm and the driver in front of me was going about 10mph under the speed limit and at times it was under 20mph gojng thru the curves.

Long Beach is a quaint little Seaside town in western Washington State. It's not far from Astoria Oregon, so you have plenty of places to eat if you are interested in more than what Long Beach offers.

For us, the reason that we go to Long Beach is to get away from the crowds.

You are able to drive on the beaches here, which is fun especially when it's razor clam season.

Spend some time walking through the little shops and support local businesses by getting an ice cream, buying salt water taffy, or just new sweatshirt that says Long Beach so that you can remember your memories every time you put it on.

Natalie, Anna, and Michelle work very hard to keep this park in top-notch shape and make it fun for all ages. These employees are great examples of a perfect 1000 trails ranger. This park has groomed trails out to the asphalt beach bike path which is a big plus for walkers and bikers.

The beach offers great views, lots of space to walk and explore. The weather was not good on this visit but it did not take away from the beauty this beach had to offer. I recommend taking a nice walk and enjoying the view. There was easy access and lots of rentals close by if you want to stay.

There are fun little shops and bakeries. They had a farmer’s market. It wasn’t too busy as we went just as things are starting to open back up. Looks like they have lots of fun things to do normally. But, we found it was a nice escape and enjoyed just walking around town visiting the shops.

We went to the beach at sunset, the best time to get pictures. There were cars on the beach, one caveat, be careful not to get stuck in the sand. We walked because my husband did not want to get stuck. The beach is one of the longest beaches in the world.
