The First Lady's Birthplace Museum, also her childhood home, speaks to the life of one of the most influential, controversial, and politically significant women of the twentieth century. Edith Bolling [Galt] Wilson was not only the First Lady of President Woodrow Wilson, but is also a descendant of: Pocahontas, Martha Washington, Thomas Jefferson, J.E.B.Stuart and Robert E. Lee. The Edith Bolling Wilson Birthplace Museum houses Bolling furniture, books, letters, art, photographs, and documents owned by Mrs. Wilson or donated by Bolling family members and friends. The second floor Bolling Home where the family lived is located above the Museum. While many historians have referred to Mrs. Wilson as "The Secret President" because of her role in our country's history during the recovery of President Woodrow Wilson's debilitating stroke in 1919, there is much more to this 'story' ... Please visit to learn more about First Lady Edith Bolling [Galt] Wilson, from her birth to her incredible journey to the White House and beyond.

This museum/birthplace was very informative. You get a better understanding of the surrounding areas and why they were named what they are today. The museum curator, Farron, was awesome!!! She co-authored a children's book that is sold at the museum. We purchased one for a souvenir. My kids enjoyed talking to her and learning more about the different artifacts that... More

This museum is a step back in time especially if you're lucky enough to catch the reenactor playing Mrs. Wilson perfectly. The memorabilia is interesting and the tour captures the imagination as you picture the people actually standing where you are. I really wish it will be a benefactor would bless this Museum but the funds to do the restoral... More

Thank you for your kind words about your visit to the museum. Betsy Ely, who portrays Mrs. Wilson, gives an amazing presentation as the First Lady and is such a wonderful ambassador for this historic site. And, maybe your email will catch the eye of a benefactor who will make the restoration of the Bolling Home a reality preserving it... More

The home was over a store front that had some historical items in it. They have just began the restoration of the actual home upstairs. There was very little furniture and a story from the tour guide who was very informative.

We appreciate your visit to the birthplace and childhood home of First Lady Mrs. Wilson. There is much to do before restoration of the Bolling Home can take place, but the home is such a gem even in its present condition. Many visitors enjoy seeing the home in its present condition since in many ways it looks like the Bolling... More

No charge for this small, new museum, however leave a donation so the people will be able to expand and tell this woman's unique story. There are many unique items and well documented notes about them. A very good introductory video and the ability to have a guided tour of the actual apartment on the second floor for a $5... More

What an interesting place this is! Knowing next to nothing about our heroine, I certainly admire her amazing spirit after learning from the film and curator. We did not go upstairs, will be back for that when completed. Loved looking at all the personal items and photos, the very vintage girl scout collection and especially the section of the original... Not many people visit this one, so the wife and I ended up with a quick tour that was just us. Neat to see the structure and birthplace itself. Building is not in great shape, but to me, that provides more of a historical look at it. Little pricey ($20 for two of us), but a nice tack-on to what... More

Thank you for visiting the birthplace home of Mrs. Wilson and her museum. We are working to acquire funding to restore the Bolling Home. We tell all our visitors that the home is in despair, but fortunately many of the architectural features are still in place and in many ways it looks like the Bollings just walked out the door!... Bo did we luck on, on the morning was visited there was a "home school" group there and they had arranged for a live actress portraying Edith Bolling Wilson. We were invited to join them. The museum is a work in progress but still a worthwhile visit

I live in Wytheville, VA and had never visited the museum until today. It was a wonderful experience. Very professional and accommodating to our homeschool group. We were visited by a reenactor of Edith and she was really good, full of life, great information, very passionate. The video afterwards was very informative also. We toured the upstairs where the Bolling... More

I didn't know anything about Wytheville, but I heard there was a museum. As a history enthusiast, I had to stop and was thrilled by the stories that awaited me. As another reviewer remarked, this is truly a labor of love, and while the home upstairs is in disrepair, they've made a remarkable start in turning this into a terrific... More

We love to have history enthusiasts visit the birthplace and childhood home of Edith Bolling Wilson. Our devotion to the legacy of Mrs. Wilson is as you said, "a labor of love," just as Mrs. Wilson's devotion to the President and our country was her "a labor of love". More

This is a small museum, well done. The video you are shown at the beginning of your visit is just right, not too much, yet complete. Lots that almost everybody did not know about Mrs. Wilson. I appreciated learning what a trailblazer she was. I was happy to make a donation at this one.
