Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge and the village of Occoquan. Are a great place to visit and plenty of places to eat or readily available. We stopped here for a lovely 'Wawa' picnic and to stretch our legs. I enjoyed the informational boards about the flora and fauna of the ecosystem. We wish we could have stayed longer; if in the area again I will certainly explore. This area possesses an 'understated' beauty. Natural and pristine. Some may find it bland or even boring. But... We stopped in looking to stretch our legs after eating and kill some time. If you are a bird watcher this place is paradise, and we saw what looked to be several serious bird watchers. If you want a quiet place to take a stroll, this also is a good place. We enjoyed about 2 miles of the trails, they... More

Occoquan Bay National Wildlife Refuge has lots of long nature trails and a fishing pond, but not much else. I'd avoid this park during May-September due to the biting black flies.

If your interested in nature, you should check it out. Saw some hikers but we did not venture in too far.

Everyone who enjoys a solid stroll through nature will find this refuge to be just that. We need more places where nature is allowed to simply be. This is an exceptional location for bird lovers. You can expect to find all manner of songbirds, waterfowl, and birds of prey. The osprey are a particular delight to watch from the trails... More
