Overview
More
Historic Jamestowne is the original site of the first permanent English settlement in America. Ongoing archaeology at the site of James Fort has changed our understanding of the struggles and triumphs of early 1600s life in Virginia. Living history programs and an archaeology museum tell the story of this dramatic rediscovery. The site is jointly administered by the National Park Service and Preservation Virginia.

This is a must go for all "history nerds". It takes about 2 hours to tour and has a variety of indoor museums, outdoor re-creations and exhibits and archeological digs. It is a very well presented and interpreted attraction.

My husband and I spent the day walking around the Historic Jamestowne park. It was really fun, we didn't do any of the guided tours but we did still learn a ton. The volunteers had lots of information for us. We did not go to...More

This is the actual site of the original Jamestown fort, managed jointly by the Park Service and a local preservation society. Even with our National Park pass, we did still have to pay $5/adult admission. We enjoyed our visit here - there was a nice...More

Was fortunate to stumble in during some war event. Included methods of defense and attack from ancient Romans and Greeks, on up to present day. That, along with colonial demonstrations was terrific.

Like to stop by to see what's new at the dig. New artifacts are being found all the time. If you like to see history this is the place. If you want to see re-creation go to settlement.

This is the original settlement of Jamestowne. They do have guided tour you can attend at no additional cost and the are extremely knowledgeable. While we were there, there was a dig going on within the church. It was extremely fascinating, I wanted to join...More

While we brought our 10-year old daughter to this site, I probably would not recommend it for younger children. She has an interest in history and archeology, and probably would have chosen to spend the entire day there if we had had the time. Younger...More

We spent the morning checking out historic Jamestowne and our favorite part was a tour with one of the National Park Rangers. He was so informative and easy to follow along with. His stories even kept our two early teenage daughters engaged. It was very...More

As the descendent of a man born in Virginia Colony in 1707, and of a man who served under Myles Standish in Plymouth Colony Mass, it was very interesting to see the techniques and skills used to survive at the beginnings of the Europeans arrival...More

Jamestown is small and has just a few things to see. The Jamestown Settlement is the BEST thing to do in town!

Don't think so... the place is laced with boarwalks. May be a bit tricky, if he wants to get on one of the boats, though. Happy travels.
