The city and center area is not big but it is worth stopping at the Information Center to get ideas from the staff. Get into town, park your car, look for one big building in town, and it is there. On the way to see the Railroad system, and the historic Roanoke Hotel.

We were so excited to visit downtown Roanoke especially the Deschutes tap room. The tap room was great. When we returned to our car we had a $40 ticket for a parking violation. It was a Saturday and not marked except to say “park here”
There are so many great breweries in great locations so we will not go back to Roanoke anytime soon.

Maybe worth 15 or 20 minutes of time. Not a lot to see or do but you can get information to go do something else. The little museum costs to get in so I did not go there. Not much in the gift store. It is right across the street from the historic Hotel Roanoke which is worth checking out if you like tudor revival architecture from the late 1800's. You can park in the visitor center lot and just walk across.

Linda was a sweet, helpful lady. She's such an asset to the Roanoke Visitor Center. You must visit here before heading out for your adventures and vacation FIRST.

We received excellent information and mapping when we accidentally discovered the center. It's too bad that the signage and staff of the Hotel Roanoke - located across the street - did not advise us of its existence when we began our visit to the area.

My daughter and I found this experience amazingly enlightening. Although I have been to Roanoke several times before and even stayed one night before, I never new the depth and breadth this city and area has to offer until now. The guide from this facility arranged a terrific and fun visit to the city on a relatively tight schedule. We were able to walk to many places and dined at a variety of places. Kudos to the staff. Roanoke should be proud of those helping to promote Roanoke and the nearby Mountains.

Highly recommended.

During our travels, we sometimes skip the tourist centers at our destinations. Why? Because much can be learned via the Internet prior to arrival. We don't want anything to interfere with our time on location for good photographic shots. Having said that, this tourist center is worth a visit before you go anywhere else in the Roanoke area.

It's located in the old, industrial era train station in downtown Roanoke a few blocks from the city market. If you're there at 0800, 1200, 1230, and 1500, you'll hear the old steam engine whistle blow demarking the beginning, middle, and end of the railroad workers day.

The O. Winston Link (paid entrance) and a free museum are co-located. The staff are friendly and helpful and a great resource to identify places to go and things to do — many that are not obvious.

The Roanoke Valley Visitor Center is such an asset to our valley! Our Kiwanis Club of Roanoke hosted a regional conference at Hotel Roanoke and found the Visitor Center to be amazingly helpful. They prepared welcome baskets for the dignitaries, information packets for all 400+ conference participants, and hosted a welcome table in our exhibit section. They were fantastic!
