Jefferson Center is a nonprofit organization that enriches and educates diverse Western Virginia communities by producing high quality performing arts programs, by providing long and short term rental space for community partners and individuals, and by providing educational outreach.Built in 1924, the Jefferson Center's historic facility originally served the community as Jefferson Senior High School. The high school was closed in the 70's and after sitting vacant for more than a decade, the Jefferson Center Foundation was formed to renovate the space into the beautiful arts venue that serves Roanoke and the surrounding region today. Jefferson Center offers world class concerts featuring a diverse array artists such as Wynton Marsalis, the Tedeschi Trucks Band, Del McCoury, Esperanza Spalding, Rosanne Cash, Bobby McFerrin and so many more. Additional, Jefferson Center offers long term rental space to 20+ non-profits and locally owned businesses, as well as short term rental space for community meetings, weddings, celebrations and many other events.

When locals think of the Jefferson Center they envision the Shaftman Performance Hall a concert, performance, and lecture venue as its primary function. There are, however, some community organization offices and Fitzpatrick Hall, the old auto repair shop, used for community events such as weddings, receptions, meetings, and conferences. I've attended functions in both Shaftman and Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick with its own... More

Came out to see a fantastic production of South Pacific by Opera Roanoke in this beautifully renovated venue. The staff is friendly and welcoming. We sat in the orchestra level and had a wonderful view of the stage. Parking was easy, the attendants were helpful in directing traffic.

On August 19, 2016 we attended The Legacy Motown Revue at the Jefferson Center. The Jefferson Center has good acoustics and sight lines. The Center was clean and the bathrooms were also. There is ample parking and the staff are wonderful.

My companion and I traveled up to Roanoke to hear my favorite band, The Tedeschi Trucks Band. This was my fifth concert of the year and Jan's third. The Jefferson Center is a former Roanoke High School that has been converted into a small convention center, meeting place and performing arts center. Without a doubt, it was the most intimate,... We went to see a concert recently and were very pleased with the venue. Parking was ample and easy we walked across the street to the front door so nice. The hall itself was gorgeous and also intimate, small enough that no real bad seats in the place. I'd highly recommend it.

We saw Sweeney Todd at the Jefferson Center and it was our first performance at this venue. We drove down from NOVA for an extended stay in the area. Our experience was great, from well managed parking to quick ticket pickup at will call, and friendly staff at the bar. The acoustics in the auditorium were wonderful even though we... More

This facility is a great asset to the Roanoke Valley. Home the Shaftman Performance Hall, which has the best acoustics of any auditorium in Roanoke, There is office space and a great event space (Fitzpatrick Hall ) all housed in the former Jefferson High School.

The Jefferson Center gets a wide variety of very decent acts and the sound in there is amazing, but my main problem is that if you don't pay to be a member the good acts usually sell out before you get a chance to buy tickets. Sometimes in just a few minutes. I wish they had a agreement with the... More

This venue had plenty of seating. I did not check out the balcony area. Dressing area was large enough for our large group. It had a historical feel to the building.
