Worth a visit at dusk when it lights up. Parking can be tricky to find near dusk. Parking was free. You can see the star for miles at night.

Roanoke's Mill Mountain Star and Park is -- and I say this with all measured seriousness -- a world-class urban gem. Despite its under-appreciation by some, the towering star is very impressive and makes one's heart beat a bit faster. It makes adults feel a...More

I took my wife here the last time I traveled to Roanoke. The star is huge and you can see the city from the mountain. Beautiful at night. Make sure you bring a jacket, it gets windy.

Our city is nick-named the Star City. I think for newcomers or visitors it is a nice drive. You stand at the foot of the star and you can look out over the valley. Beautiful view on the way up and from the star itself.

The hike up Mill Mountain for children is an easy hike. The trails wrap around so it's not steep. Children of all ages will enjoy it. You will be under trees during 99% of the hike so it is pretty shady. When they get to... More
