A "must see" on most visitors list, an 88-foot manmade star (the largest in the world) sits on majestic Mill Mountain along with a beautifully landscaped city park, that boasts hiking and biking trails, and a zoo.

Visiting Roanoke is a great weekend getaway trip if you live close enough to the area. There are plenty of nice little joints to visit in and around town, one of the more noticeable being the Roanoke Star sitting on top a nearby mountain. Visiting...More

Everyone says you have to see it. Well yes lit up from a distance is fine but up close it is ugly. A Garden was started in 1950 and has not been cared for since then, very disappointing. Better views from the Blue Ridge Parkway...More

A must see for anyone in or near Roanoke! Don't miss the view from the Star! This park is just as fantastic in winter as you can see more of the view through the trees.

Beautiful views of the Valley. Did you know there is a camera at Mill Mt you can log on and see yourself or invite your family to see you.

Beautiful view of Roanoke. Right off the blue ridge Parkway. Clean bathroom and a few trails ranging from easy to hard to stretch the legs.

Such a beautiful view of the Roanoke Valley from the star. Limited parking, with a walking trail to another lookout. The star is lit up at night and you can see it from all over the Roanoke Valley. A must see. There is a small...More

We heard about this and thought we needed to check it out. It’s just an over glorified “look out” point. You can get better valley views from the Blue Ridge Parkway.

You can drive up there, unsure about the zoo, no ticket required for the star.

There is a two lane road to the top & two parking areas. The ascending grade is gradual enough you can see where you’re going. It should be ok & the view is worth it.

Yes, but it is not a dog park. You would have to keep him/her on leash. There are often kids running around by the star. I believe the are has a number of hiking trails that you would enjoy.
