This was out first visit. We live in Kerikeri and as so often happens people rarely visit attractions on their doorstep. We have heard that there were a few glitches to start, that happens too. Our experience was delightful. Lovely cakes and gelato (made in house) great tea and coffee, friendly staff and a very pleasant setting. A few savoury... More

We were recently on a bike tour in Bay of Islands, NZ and our guide stopped at The Makana Chocolate Boutique for a quick visit. They were handing out samples when you walked in of their toffee which was DE-LISH! And I don't normally even LIKE Toffee (hubby is a big fan). They have a glass walled work area in... More

Don't enter this shop without a credit card or wallet full of cash. These handmade chocs are an indulgent treat and difficult to leave with only one box. We were able to taste a few different types before buying. Short life on each box as no preservatives so check use by date on purchase. Also you can watch through the... More

We took our friends to sample some of the delicious fare available in the chocolate factory, then headed to the gelato bar. What a hard decision it was choosing a flavour. So many delectable treats. My eyes were drawn to the cabinet of sweet treats. Definitely worth a return visit. Yum!

Dessert during the day, chocolate on side or gelato flavours to die for on a summers day. Worth a visit, great relaxed surroundings. I had a dark hot chocolate and it was served with a generous sized shortbread on the side.

The chocolates here are delicious - but expensive the nut brittle is lovely. They often have samplers which is a good way to try something. The Chocolate shop has just opened a cafe next door and it is worth stopping here. Coffee was good and the food on offer was tasty and delicious.

This was definitely a highlight for me in Kerikeri and I kept returning for the gelato and $4 coffees! Good outdoor seating for some sunshine. $4 for any coffee - any size - all double shot! The cakes and patisseries were expensive ($6 - $12) however the gelato was what I came for. $5 a scoop or $8 for a... More

First of all the gelato and the chocolate mousse cake were delicious. In fact everything for sale looks so beautiful. I'm guessing there is one very talented pastry chef working incredibly hard behind the scenes. Which makes it all the more disappointing that a little more care boxing up the cake wasn't taken. The chocolate twirl on top of the... More
