Ata Rangi, meaning "dawn sky" or "new beginning" is a small New Zealand winery with a big reputation for serious Pinot Noir. Located at the southern end of the North Island, it is owned and managed by a family trio - Clive Paton, his wife Phyll and his sister Alison - with star winemaker Helen Masters and Vineyard Manager Gerry Rotman. Ata Rangi is well established in 25 international markets and has an enviable reputation as one of the New World's most respected Pinot Noir producers."...the long-serving, dedicated team behind Ata Rangi just go from strength to strength. Their Pinots have always been great and yet, even in a world where the Pinot benchmark gets higher every year, Ata Rangi is better than ever." Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, April 2013

Great information and wines

The people serving were warm and shared the wines with enthusiasm. This winery had a lot of ambience. Will be buying this wine at home and know where to go to get it.

There are a number of wineries in the Martinborough area and this was one of the best. I particularly liked the 2011 just released McCrone Vineyard Pinot Noir. I bought a bottle so I hope it tastes as good whenever we decide to open it!

Nice rustic building with a modern twist. Cellar door host was very welcoming and the wines very tasty, particularly the crimson pinot noir.

I have been a big fan of Ata Rangi wines for a long time and so was very much looking forward to a visit to the cellar door. Unfortunately I must say that I was left disappointed by the behaviour of the person serving us who I suppose thought they were being gregarious and funny but came across as rude... More

Hi, Have just picked up on your review. We're gutted to say the least. We appreciate and respect most strongly that a lot of people have connection with our wines all over the world, and come a long way to see us. A clear misfire that day from our usual style and steadfast objective of being warm, welcoming, relaxed, passionate... More

Ata Rangi has a good range of wines, with a particularly good pinot. Overall the wines were good and worth a taste.

Ata Rangi wines are fantastic! Pinot noir is a standout. Don't miss their tasting room. It is rustic on the outside, modern inside and situated in a lovely setting. The staff were friendly and helpful. When we arrived it was pretty busy, but the staff managed a number of people wanting to taste and purchase smoothly and hospitably.

Very nice wine and you have to go here if you love Pinot Noir. It may have been the time of the year, or just a bad day, but compared with some of the other wine tastings we'd been too in the region, the tasting/service did feel a step down. More following the process and getting through it, rather than... More

Thanks for the feedback. Definitely not our usual style, we pride ourselves on being engaging, friendly and informative - so this is quite a surprise. Apologies, however, for clearly being flat on the day you visited. More
