As National Trust members who holiday in the UK, we always visit a number of properties throughout the year. Never have we been made to fell so uncomfortable. The National Trust guides could do well to see 'how it is done' by the guides at the other local properties in the area. Try and be friendly and welcoming, informative if... More

Our first visit to Chartwell despite living in Kent. As we only joined the National Trust last year we thought we should discover more in the beautiful county we live in. Chartwell is a stunning house and portrays so well the life of Sir Winston Churchill amazing how much he packed into his life. So interest and so well presented... More

Such a shame that the house is surrounded by scaffolding at the present time due to water ingress but the interior is charming with the most delightful dining room. Wonderful to see the home of this great man.

Sir Winston Churchill was our greatest Briton .If you get a chance to go to Chartwell then take a visit. and feel the history. On arrival you will be given a time slot to visit the main house. We had a two hour wait. Not to worry there is so much else to see. In the painting studio we had... More

Cost of visiting just visiting the garden plus the car park fee puts off any family with children. If we were not already NT members, there is no way we would visit this place because we could not justify the expense. It even costs money for the kids to do the Winnie the Pooh garden trail. Very disappointing. On the... More

Thank you for your continued support as members of the National Trust. We are disappointed to hear in your feedback that you feel it is expensive to visit Chartwell. Upon arrival you are issued with a time to tour the house. Until then you can explore the extensive grounds and gardens, the wall that Churchill built himself, along with the art gallery that show many of the numerous paintings by Churchill who was a surprisingly good artist. A decent and reasonably priced lunch (or snacks) and drinks are available... More

We were told that it's not possible to book for Chartwell but just turn up for allocated timed house entrance . We travelled 185 miles to arrive at around 1.30pm but we're told abruptly that it wasn't possible to enter the property as all the entrance tickets had been allocated. Surely it would then make sense to allow pre booking... More

I'm sorry to hear that you were unable to visit the house after travelling such a long distance; we wish to welcome all visitors to Chartwell. For visitor comfort and conservation reasons we do have to limit the number of people going through the house at any one time. As we are a popular tourist attraction this does mean that... More

This place is stunningly beautiful, it was the perfect place for our large family gathering. We bought our own picnic (and booze of course). The young kids with us were highly amused for the whole day and very much enjoyed the 'Winnie the Pooh' trail.

What a place! Chartwell is beautiful and there is soooo much to do! The views are incredible and give that immediate WOW factor! The hill down to the lake is perfect for rolling down, the kids loved it! The house is fantastic and the kitchen garden and playhouse were really enjoyable for the children! Our two year old wouldn't leave... More

Currently the gable end is covered by scaffolding as window frames being replaced to stop the damp getting in. Guides in every room are eager to answer questions and all very pleasant. Great tribute to Sir Winston with lots of interesting memorabilia as well as his pictures, although very little about using the Army to break the Welsh miners strike... More
