Country retreat of Sir Winston Churchill. Beautiful location. we visited in March so in another month or so the gardens will be stunning. The house was being renovated on the outside but inside was interesting with loads of info on Churchill and his life and what a lot he packed into it?! Amazing man. Worth a visit. Free for National... More

Good National Trust property and a wonderful glimpse into Churchill's life. The house is fairly modest but full of memorabilia and displays which give a great insight into the war years. Made me very proud to be British! What happened to Chartwell during the war? Apparently it was mothballed and although very vulnerable, it was never attacked by the Germans... More

We enjoyed our visit. Somewhat restricted access to a limited number of rooms. Little explanation about the Studio. Terrible soup in the cafe (avoid NT lettuce, mint, at all cost!!) could do with better signage when leaving. But setting these more minor carps on one side, this property is important for displaying the life of one of the great figures... More

This is a national trust place and also Sir Winston Churchill's country resistance. It was gigantic and was very much like a huge park. With a small play area with wooden seesaws - literally made of a log stuck to a huge shaving of a tree! It was a very fun walk with our dog (Finn) around the lake, and... More

The visit was very informative and there was a lot to see. Take time to read the small tablets dotted all over citing the letters written between Churchill and his wife Clemmie . Guides were good, especially the lady in the drawing room ( I hope she will forgive me for saying she was elderly but a more gracious lady... More

We were on our way to Kent and we thought we would take a break at Chartwell. The weather was dry but dull. However that did not matter as the lovey views around the grounds lifts up your soul. We looked around the gardens and viewed the kitchen garden from the top before it was our time to explore the... More

Got there early and got timed tickets for the house for as soon as it opened [11 am on the day we went]. Friendly and informative staff at reception. Useful laminated leaflet for the house with information about features in each room. [Can book timed tickets for the house for times from about 2 pm onwards - but if one... More

Once again the National Trust volunteers provided a high standard of knowledge about Churchill and his family. The exhibition is a must for those interested in World Wars I and II. Their personal life and his artwork have been tastefully blended to make this house and grounds so interesting on many levels. Magnificient view from the house and garden. Lovely... More
